I agree with you in that they appear to be using the radical islamic tactics of provoke and then claim innocence
afterward, ie “We were attacked!!”.

That’s my point, it IS 1985, IT always was 1985 but we chose not to believe it.

Russia whining and blustering to the UN will be as useless as our whining and blustering to the UN...we will just veto each other.

No, whatever results from the Russian invasion and the US missile shield will happen without the pencil pushers at the UN.

The UN will watch what happens on CNN (or al Jazeera) at the same time we are watching it on FOX. The UN is a paper possum. (Why an opossum? Because a tiger has nobility and is feared. An opossum is pretty much useless. Vero opossumus.)

Thank you. I found it after I pinged you. Sheesh, you work hard for two days, oblivious to the world and then these developments.

Yes I did. Good book about the bad old days.

Another favorite was “Warday”, which once you got past the author's liberal slant in the first 50 pages, was very well written.

So far he's doing a better job than tough talking McCain. If W and McCain think we're ready to risk a serious confrontation with Russia they are wrong.

A debate on the subject, no matter how stupidly Barry waffles, will give him the presidency.

Our State Department headed by Condi has not taken advantage of forming a win win policy with Russia. People always want change, for the better hopefully, and this is a good place to start.

We do; the half of the Army that is not resting or preparing to deploy to Iran; six Carrier Battle Groups; and a number of Air Expeditionary Wings.

I don’t believe that’s the case anymore, thanks to Jimmy Carter essentially giving it to Red China.

“-— That’ll work well. First time Obambi tries to move down the court Putin plants a judo chop that takes out most of Obambi’s teeth. Obambi looks around for the ref’s call and suddenly realizes there is no ref... -—”

Funny thing here is that Putin is actually a 6th Dan Black Belt Judo fighter, and would like wipe the floor with Obama.

It did. After the wall went down, loans and talent went to Russia, transforming it to a Democracy, to a Capitalistic system etc., seems every facet of Russia was revamped. A lot of cooperating was going on for both of our mutual benefits.

But now Russia apparently feels it's doing all the cooperating on the demand of the west and to it's own insecurity.

If you think objectively, you have to admit, they have a point, and Buchanan and a few other brave souls spell it out. If you ever saw such flawed policy that needs change this could be a winner for Barry. McCain jumped the shark on this way back in supporting Clintons bombing of Yugoslavia, and continues clenching his fist when taking about it seems any Russian.

After he bones up on financial issues, he should attend a diplomacy workshop before we get to the convention.

WHere did you cut and paste the HW bidding history from? The summary of the post-war treaty issues was very superficial.

When and how long have you been in panama? visiting x number of countries is meaningless in this context (I personally do not walk around with an exact count on my countries visited). You clearly did not spend enough time here to figure out who runs what if you think the ports are the canal.

Stating that HW controls balboa and cristobal port is true.
Neither port runs the canal, which is run by the ACP. This is a branch of the government here (not beijing), and is still mostly an american-style civil service. Please present evidence the ACP is run by china.

let me repeat - HW runs 2 ports. HW does not run a canal. They do not control the canal. They do not operate locks. They do not dredge the canal.

The ACP does all of that. The ACP has nothing to do with the ports.

You have not even mentioned the ACP.

All you have managed to cut and paste is a somewhat dimly written summary of the owner of HW and his obvious connections to the chinese government.

There is no question HW got the lease corruptly. Welcome to latin america - you should try africa.

I have friends who work in the canal commission who find this stuff absolutely hysterical, and wonder what on earth people in the US (since they clearly don’t live here) are smoking.

Your inane demand that I ‘prove’ this verges on the bizarre - the ACP is the Panama Canal Commission (formerly the Panaam Canal Company, formerly the Isthmian Canal Company) renamed and doing essentially the same thing they always did - operate the canal in ALL ASPECTS. This is a matter of the most basic public record. You have to be willfully dense to not know that the PCC continued functionally unchanged after the handover. You haven’t even mentioned the commission in any form.

As far as who owns it, by treaty it was returned to Panama in 1999. I can assure you titular ownership has not changed.

So, to recap -

HW runs 2 ports. They are a company with connection to the chinese government. It is unclear what the connection is - you are welcome to provide evidence on the nature of the connection. Please note that the law giving the port leases to them did not include the canal.

ACP runs the canal. It is not clear that you even knew what the ACP was, since you didn’t mention it in the cut-n-paste you offered me.

Why don’t we talk about who owns the canal, and who operates it, rather than balboa and cristobal ports?

Russia lost the Cold War. There are consequences to losing. They cannot come back a second time after stealing all that western investment and try to take back the lands they lost. We wont be so nice after they lose the second time.
