Welcome! FR can use some fresh blood. Beware of the schoolyard bullies who will try to take your lunch money. Don't let them suck you in to a confrontation. Ignore them or answer them respectfully, telling them you ignore them.

McCain is the problem is Obama/Biden 2008. That's not just pretty scary, that ticket is downright terrifying!

Correction: He's a sperm doner. Whether he becomes a father or not remains to be seen. Many teenagers cannot handle the responsibility."

I love it when a stranger condemns another person based upon no personal knowledge of that whatsoever. It's SO open minded.

I love it when people tell the truth and spare no punches. I might also add that Palin's husband has a DUI conviction (yeah.. please tell me everyone drives while intoxicated/no big deal/17 years ago/blah-blah-blah)

What happened to the days when Americans would take one look at these 2 factors and disqualify the candidate as unfit to lead?

I think the rest of the world respected the U.S. a lot more when its people weren't afraid to judge someone or whack a person from the list based on their moral track record. This is the VP of the United States, here. Not president of the homeowner's association or YMCA coach.

McCain disappoints me big time with this situation. I think he's brilliant in the sense that the dem's cannot strike at this woman without a little self-castration in the process, but I'd rather have any number of honest folks without the blemishes on their resume.

It goes beyond just winning for me.

The left will point to the “hypocrisy” of failed teaching of abstinence -

They can point all they want, but what does it prove. Has anyone shown that "comprehensive" sex ed has a better outcome with respect to unmarried pregnancy?

President Bush had a DUI conviction years ago as well. Think he has proven to be unfit to lead? You holier-than-thou types just crack me up.

Why on earth would they put the baby up for adoption? They are surrounded by a loving and supportive family. They’ll do just fine.

I keep hearing about how supportive everyone is, but I don't read about the boyfriend and his family in the article. Is there another source people have read? We have heard from the Palin side that the two are going to get married, but have we heard from the future inlaws yet?

Assuming it will work out is just as presumptuous. Almost all of us know nothing about the dynamic in this family and even less about the boyfriend’s family. It’s absurd to advocate strongly either way in this specific case. We are basing all of this armchair psychology on a couple news clips. Get real, people. We can wish them well, that is about it.

I’m sorry but a DUI from her husband 22 years ago is not a big deal at all.

I don’t care about what people do in the past. It’s how they handle themselves at the present.

People make mistakes and learn from them all the time.

I don't agree that adolescents cannot be coerced by their parents.

PLEASE, EVERYONE, LEARN TO READ! DON'T SEND ME HATEMAIL SAYING THAT I AM ACCUSING THE PALINS OF COERCING THEIR DAUGHTER! I AM SAYING THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR AN ADOLESCENT TO BE COERCED TO MARRY.

I don't know whether or not it could happen in these families any more than the rest of you do.

If there is someone on this thread who has longtime personal knowledge of this family, then I don't include you in my statement.

Whenever I see one of “our” guys doing something that I want to excuse away, I always ask how I would react if it were a Clinton doing it. Keeps me more honest, I think.

Indeed. It's one of the reasons I don't like politcs that much - because people treat each other based on what group they side with and nothing else matters. You're not a person, you're a party. If you're in the party I am, great, you're infallable; if you're in the other party, you're an untouchable. *shrug*

That was about the same time that Obama was doing coke, correct?

Nah. His kiddos are official residents. But I’ll just bet the Palins will all be over at the White House — maybe even running the halls in a couple of years.

I didn’t mean for it to sound like McCain wasn’t going to be there with his kids.

I am not trying to “win”, I am just advocating for the great good adoption can be. Of course there are situations where the birth parents do just fine, I have carefully noted that, and often. I have also noted my fervent hope that these kids make it.

But to deny that adoption is often a valid, wonderful option for the child is as rigid and factually unsound as you believe me to be.

Why do you say sickening?

I am so confused by the rather heated denial of the validity of adoption.
