Great column!! I used to enjoy reading Rod Dreher when he was in NY..... then at one point he got into all that crunchy granola stuff and I stopped clicking on his links. But now it sounds like he’s re-discovering his conservative roots. He really gets it!!

I went to college with that guy. Of course that was along with about 40,000 others, so it wasn’t like we were best buds. In fact I probably never met him. But I’ll still claim him as a classmate.

Say what you might, but can Ms. Palin hold up against Condi Rice?

all that crunchy granola stuff

It's "Crunchy Cons" - Cons = Conservatives. Obviously, you didn't even read him much, if at all.

Or do you just hate granola?

People talk about George Washington as the father of our country, well Sarah as the first female to achieve such high office could certainly be the mother figure and if
there’s one lesson liberals should learn it’s...

Don’t mess with MY mom!

I was pretty lukewarm until the left started behaving like savages. Which pretty much woke me up and reminded me why they shouldn't be left in charge.

at the same time Sarah is able to excite even RINOs such as Linda Lingle, Rudy, Arlen Specter and I guess we can throw in Lieberman, even though he isn’t a Republican.

I don't think anyone can compare Condi and Palin. They are completely different types of people, IMHO. Rice is pretty understated until she is fighting against the Russians, and actually I expected her to be a little more forceful when Georgia flared up. I know it's not all up to her, but still... She could've taken a harder line on a bunch of things, IMHO, and not "harmed" anything, but only helped by supporting Bush as well...

Palin on the other hand isn't afraid to take things on - especially when it comes to the liberal media (again something Condi could've done a little more forcefully, IMHO - it would've helped Bush a little more, IMHO). As much as I respect Condi, I "LOVE" Sarah Palin that much more... LOL

I've watched her speech from the convention and what is thrilling is how she "in your face" introduces her dtrs and her sons especially Trig.....she calls her dtrs strong, kind hearted, IIRC ....very proud mother not going to let the evil DBM humiliate her or her children....

I think her pregnant dtr looks very sad....like she is so upset about becoming pregnant.....she is SOOO lucky to have a wise and accepting mother to help her thru this, and apparently a wonderful father as well...

I think Condi is indeed a very brilliant woman with tons of class and character.....I don’t think she was prepared for the utter meaness and backstabbing in Washington DC.

Speaking of women: I have yet to read any national column suggesing the possibility that Cindy McCain is the brains behind Gov. Palin's selection. One day, however, I think it'll come to light that as meek as she appears on stage in deference to her husband, she is far more influential than any of us knows.

Yes, this is a theoretical viewpoint. Nonetheless, Cindy McCain is so supportive of Sarah Palin that I can't help believing she urged McCain to move in the direction of a female pick, and the WOW of a candidate emerged. I'd like to offer a public "thank you" to Cindy for her good character and campaign endurance and loving support of Gov. Palin.

Regards . . . Penny
