Hey Doug or Cousin Eddie
Is that same guy gave Matt Drudge his Walter Winchell hat
I hear that legendary rumor of story
Is it true???
I think it’s true.
He and Drudge used to talk about that hat. Drudge was a regular on George’s show...on at least once a week if not more in the mid/late ‘90s when The Drudge Report was just getting started and before Drudge moved to Florida and became the huge phenomenon.
I’ve heard that they used to meet for dinner at Musso & Frank...a legendary 90 year old Hollywood restaurant.
“Wow. I cant believe that old guy was still around.”
I can’t believe he’s not.
I seee that coollll
I hear of that restaurant still in business it was on TCM they interview one of owner it one of Hollywood getaways spots LOL
To be honest, I’m surprised that Drudge hasn’t put anything up on his website. While it’s true that George wasn’t a national figure, he was instrumental in launching Drudge’s career and gave him the trademark Winchell hat. Even some notice in one of the columns would be appropriate.
Any a number of national news figures would know him...Cronkite, Brokaw, Connie Chung, etc.
One day, late in the show I called just to ask him a question; the call-screener said he didn’t think there would be time to get me on the show, so I hung up.
Imagine my surprise when Putnam himself called me back to apologize for not getting to me.
We talked for about ten minutes; I never called him again - I was convinced that he was the genuine thing.
Eddie go on it further down because of Hurricane Ike I just saw it over there I refresh Drudge site just now
Who took care of all his “adopted” animals after he went in hospital?
Wasn’t it he who had Rosemary Clooney and Ray Bradbury on his show on several occasions?
He knew everybody, it seemed.
Putnam’s forced tone was obvious. It was good material for Baxter, the rest he did on his own.
From day one of the MTM show I recognized the parody. It was such good humor that when I heard Putnam years later, I thought of Baxter. It always brought a smile.
Don’t worry he has people I am listen to CRN Networks right now according to his daughter Jill she is in studio she been taking care of animals maybe be planning to open George Putnam horse riding school
thanks...I looked an hour or two ago...even did a full screen search...and didn’t find it then. Glad to see it.
Whatever happened to Ray Briem? The radio station I listed to them on in So. Cal. changed before I moved to Texas and I lost track of both of them.
Most of the youngsters have no idea who Putnam was.
Older Americans on the west coast know him as true patriot. After listening to Putnam, listening to people like Hannity have only made me want to turn off the radio.
Ray is retired and living in Hollywood I believe. Don’t quote me. ;-)
You too huh. I know exactly what you mean... LOL.
"Don't panic, it's organic!"
OH Dragnet I remember George Putnam for him riding the Rose Parade with the horses
I remember him on KIEV 870am back in da day when I was home sick I sometime put on the radio listen to him when I was in high school or “taking personal day off”
