Perhaps this is what you are thinking of:
IIRC, Jerry Dunphy was shot/mugged, but I believe he was stopped at a traffic light while driving his convertible with his wife in the passenger seat. Jerry survived the attack.
No, no, no. You’re right. The rumor was Dunphy (not Nahan) or Putnam.
I grew up with a bunch of cops. One of them works at Parker. He told me of reading the report on that and said that everything about them being at a stoplight and getting robbed was fabricated to spare them a very embarrassing public exposure to what really happened. It started in their garage, and went up into their home. But he wouldn’t say which one it was.
I’m still curious. I was hoping someone might know. LOL
I remember George Putnam’s radio shows back when my mom listened to KABC talk radio all day long in the 1970’s. Back then the regulars were Ray Briem, Michael Jackson, and George Putnam. Putnam being my favorite.
I completely became a talk radio listener during the 90s when I found George again on the dial at KIEV (the forerunner to KRLA).
Of course George will also be remembered for his appearances in the Rose Parade and his numerous cameos in film and television.
RIP George. Whatta voice.
Speaking of Michael Jackson, the liberal talk host from UK...I had to laugh whenever George made fun of Jackson by mentioning the latter’s hairpiece...
George was a remarkable guy.
One would learn some interesting details about US and world history from him...He lived through the Depression and the WWII. He knew Presidents Nixon and Reagan fairly well. On his show, George set the record straight when the present-day Hollywood liberals complained about anti-communism “hysteria” during 1950s. He was one of the founding members of the union AFRA. George socialized with John Wayne and Charlton Heston...
I actually spoke to him on the air once...It was the only time I actually called a talk show. I asked him about Marilyn Monroe. I asked George if he believed that she was murdered. He responded, “I don’t know about that”.
I was disappointed when George left the KRLA 870. There apparently was a dispute with the management about how many hours his show will be on air...
I think that George helped the talk show host Wally George when the latter needed money for medical expenses...Wally died several years ago...
I am sure Terry Anderson will pay tribute to George on Sunday...
Thank you.
I really miss talk radio. They don’t have it where I live now. : (
There are links on the internet where you can tune in over the computer. You can link up Rush on a multitude of sites. Other radio stations have their whole program linkable.
Look into it if you can. You’ll be glad you did.
It's true I was listening to the show on the day he gave Drudge the hat.
Glad to see Drudge has a link to one of the Obituary's
Drudge should pen one himself.
He also loved Lucianne Goldberg called her doll and how they would carry on.
He has for years warned listeners against NFTA, GATT, and the WTO.
As to the Ted Knight caricature, One of the Obit's. stated that when George encountered Knight at a banquet,
he supposedly laughed and said "Hey Ted get your own act."
Sure sounds like something George would say and do.
I sure hope he has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior,
Acts 16:31
Otherwise his entire life will have been wasted.
I'd also like to see him in heaven.
Here's to brighter stronger America. (temporal at best)
Even more so, to a joyous eternal life with all mankind that trust in the shed blood of Christ.
I believe that was Stu Nahan.
Nah, it was Jerry Dunphy. I googled them all last night, and it’s reported that Dunphy “was attacked and shot by would be robbers” in ‘83. That’s all that the news accounts say.
RIP, Mr Putnam.
We’ll keep your USA safe and proud.\
“Evil is Powerless, if the good are unafraid.” President Ronald Reagan.
Another grand cowboy who rode into the sunset, his way to the very final end.
God bless him and keep his family safe.
First C. Heston and now Mr. Putnam. A sad time!
I believe and heard his famnily could trace their geneology to military members of the American Revolution. There was a General Putnam around then. Anyone can confirm this?
Sorry for the delay in responding.
I do link to Rush all the time, but I guess I was thinking about how I miss turning the radio on in my car and hearing something worthwhile while driving.
This is Texas, you know. Lots of time for the radio in the car. : )
Yes, it would be good if you could listen in the car. That is a bummer.
