Not a person here know the real numbers, only the McCain and Obama camps do.
Iowa might be gone, but do you think the campaigns give a darn about RAS and Gallup?
McCain has surprised us before. It was a masterstroke right after Obama’s big speech when Palin was announced. He will do another “mavericky” thing to turn the tide, but his timing needs to be right.
Remember, we shouldn’t even be this close.

This was the 5th column’s plan anyways, suprised you guys are falling for it. Let polls drive the news, have the MSM fawn over Obama, restrict coverage of McCain. This is in their playbook. If the mood of the coutry was str8 up socialist then this bill would have sailed through. Fact is the mood of the country is one of extreme suspicion of politicians in general and that makes our founding Fathers smile. McCain will win comfortably, book it. Americans will not turn the country over to a neophite in times of turmoil.
Is it at least possible that the campaign knows something the pollsters don't? I'm guessing he has good reason to be in Iowa, probably because his internal polling shows something we aren't seeing.
McCain is likely behind, but I honestly think it's on the order of 2-3 points. Perhaps FReepers place too much faith in public polling.
The Oct surprise Mark Foley scandal and Denny Hastert rescue of Rep Jefferson ticked off alot of Rep and they stayed home .
The 2006 mid term is poor basis for any tracking poll .

You are too thin skinned. The point was, you are not a expert in any way.
Freepers are overlooking the fact that those in the mushy middle, who are the only voters still up for grabs, don’t see things the way they do. Wall Street is closely identified with the Republicans, so they get blamed for its problems. That’s not right, it’s not fair, but it’s a fact.
And when the President goes on TV telling the American people their financial system is melting down, it is going to redound negatively to the nominee of his party. Again, not right, not fair, but a fact.
Right now, McCain is losing. Not right, not fair, but a fact. He needs this issue to get off the front page and soon, or he will lose in November. He is not a good enough candidate to fight against these kinds of electoral headwinds and prevail.
The other thing he needs to do, is stop so closely aligning himself with this issue. I understand his reasoning, but if a candidate is going to make a big, fat hairy deal out of suspending his campaign and swooping in like Mighty Mouse to save the day, he should make darn sure that he can actually save the day, or he will suffer the consequences of failure.
Say what you want about Obama’s political philosophy, which I despise as much as any Freeper, but his political instincts are better than McCain’s. Or maybe his advisors are better. He knew that there was no win here, and made sure that when the caca hit the fan, he, with a little help from the MSM, wasn’t going to be the one covered in spatter. In contrast, McCain made sure he was standing directly in front of the rotating blades. And here we are.
There’s time for McCain to pull this out, but he’s going to have to get much, much smarter about what he does and says from here on out.
You are so right, but he says these things behind closed doors and doesn't go to the American people about this. The Rats are very happy to politicize the economy, it has put Obambi in the lead.
McCain has got to stop acting like a Senator trying to craft a solution behind closed doors. If he succeeds the Rats take credit. If he fails the Pubs are blamed. The only way out of this catch-22 is to go right to the people and blow up the whole mess, name people who are responsible, disclose the close relationships between wall street and DC and offer a solution that works without 700B dollars.
IOW, get behind the Pubs that voted no. They represent middle America.
Actually, it gives a similar appearance as his "suspended campaign" move did, that he is behind and making desperate campaign moves. I am not saying he shouldn't have gone back to DC. I just wished he had done it a few days earlier. Right now, he's paying a steep price in his campaign for what he has done and not done the past week.
