Lord, take good care of the Soxbloggah. We’d like to keep him down here a little while longer.

I don't know and haven't seen anything on the net.

His picture at Townhall.com indicates someone in his late 30s to early 40s, just my guess.

I do know a man in his 40s with CF.

The fact that he’s made it to this age probably says allot about his parents. My brother and his wife are brutally rigid in their regime of treatment, and the “pat pats” they have to do. They tell me that many of the kids who are in the worst shape seem to have parents that don’t hammer away at the kids like they are supposed to.

Gob bless the man.

It is the most common genetic disease among Caucasians. About 1 in 20 are carriers, so the prevalence is about 1 in 400 births.

Frank DeFord the sportswriter wrote a poignant biography of his daughter “Alex: The Life of a Child” about her battle and subsequent death from CF. He wrote about the pounding that he and his wife had to give Alex everyday.

Yes.

I couldn’t read something like that, it’d reduce me to tears unfortunately.

My niece is a true angel, and has had to fight like crazy. I couldn’t have made it through half of what she has had to endure.

Nasty, ghastly disease.

A very good friend of mine (who had contracted it at an early age) died of complications from CF in 1998 after a prolonged struggle against it.

With her immune system all but shot, she contracted a staph infection in the hospital that could not be treated, and the docs told her that the best they could do for her was let her choose her own time of "passing," i.e. when to turn off the ventilator. Her father, also a good friend of mine, had to sign the paperwork to do it, after she decided that she wanted to go at sunrise.

And so she did, peacefully and with dignity.

It was completely heartbreaking, and I still choke up about it today, ten years later.
