Hillary also could have chosen to run from Illinois instead of NY.

Could Jack Ryan have kept his pants zipped?

From what I remember it wasn't an affair, he took her to a sex club. Jeri brought it up to get points during the divorce. And someone in that circle released that info during the campaign.

"There were rumors swirling around at the time that he had skeletons in his closet."

Yep. Da Coach really wanted that seat, and we knew he was the only one who could beat Obama. Diana wanted NOTHING to do with it however, so it is assumed that ignoring her wishes would have resulted in devastating hurt and embarrassment.

Sin has consequences, sometimes far beyond what we can imagine when tempted.

I believe a Dem judge unsealed the divorce records. At the time, Jeri said ‘you say a lot during a custody hearing’. She didn’t deny or confirm. That statement did Jack Ryan in. The Republicans threw him off the ticket immediately.

but IF our fate is to be stuck with a Rat president this year, wouldn’t we (the USA) have been better off with Hillary?

Just something to think about.

Ryan didn’t have an affair. He was probably the first person in the history of politics forced out of a race for wanting to have sex with his OWN wife.

True. We would have no hope against Hillary in an environment such as this. She would hold a commanding lead.

Sheez! It was a sex club. He deserved an expensive divorce, but the US doesn’t deserve Obama.

Ditka never got into the race, can’t blame him.

I blame the Illinois Republicans who kept mostly conservative Peter Fitzgerald from running for re-election. They preferred GIVING it to the Dems than to allow a whistleblower like Fitz to stick around.

This is really a “bunch of nothing”. Any politician could of either died unexpectedly or resigned either expectantly (due to a possible scandal(s)) or unexpectedly at any given point in time, and each time that this kind of thing does happen, it changes the entire political makeup.

Good point. The always prescient Dick Morris (ha ha) said in the late 1990s that Hillary would not run for the Senate from NY. They would dismiss her as a carpet bagger. Instead she would wait and run from her home state of IL in 2004. What would 0bama have done then? He would have either had to take her on, or perhaps hope for some kind of scandal against Sen Durbin. Lord knows.

Have we ever found out that what was alleged in the divorce papers was true?

People often make vicious outlandish statements during divorce proceedings.

It may very well have been true, but the problem was that they simply weren’t relevant. The rodents/media (no separating them now, one does the dirty work for the other) were so anxious to find ANYTHING to nail Jack Ryan over (who otherwise had an exemplery public record), so they figured something would be found in sealed divorce records, and they struck proverbial gold (or more to the point, enough that Ryan would withdraw as he wasn’t going to have his family dragged through the mud in a constant media attack — why so many Republicans in private won’t run for office). Jeri Ryan herself stood by Jack, so if he were as “bad” a character as implied, she certainly never would’ve done that (indeed, it was Jeri when she was separated from Jack out on the west coast with her fledgling career in “Star Trek: Voyager”, she was having an affair with one of the producers). In any event, if the media held a similar standard of having a randy desire as Jack Ryan did to the Democrat party, there’d be almost no Democrats in office anywhere.
