This quote is so out of context in so many ways I’m getting tired of debunking it.

The quote refers to continuing and expanding an organization to enter war zones immediately post-conflict and rebuild & restabilize them - an organization started under Bush.

Unfortunately the “brownshirts” meme has taken hold of this so strongly there’s no room for truth.

Details:

The Department of Commerce is actively recruiting for positions for the U.S. Civilian Response Corps (CRC). The U.S. Civilian Response Corps (CRC) provides the United States Government with a cadre of readily available, trained and equipped civilian specialists who can quickly respond to complex crises that threaten U.S. national security. The Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS) within the Department of State has the lead role in the establishment and implementation of the CRC.

The CRC was first piloted in the State Department in 2006 and 2007, and expanded in 2008 with $55 million in FY 2008 Supplemental funding to stand-up an interagency CRC of skilled professionals from eight U.S. Civilian Agencies, including State, USAID, Justice, Agriculture, Commerce, Treasury, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security. The CRC is comprised of three components: Active; Standby; and Reserve.

This past September, the Department signed an agreement on the Active component with the Department of State, which provides for the funding of two new, full-time Civilian Response Corps positions within the Department of Commerce, and all associated costs of training, equipping and deploying them. The Department is currently recruiting members for the Active Component of the CRC (CRC-A).
