Let’s see:

Someone with a long family-political pedigree in his state, looses re-election to his Senate seat, and he becomes so great that he should be made RNC chairman????

That’s all we need is a RINO loser.

The RNC chair is not a consolation prize. It’s a key post for rebuilding the party.

Exactly. We need to stop allowing the media to marginalize our party. They have split us from within. Only a true conservative that adheres to ALL of the party platform should get this position.

Sununu is a RINO who voted for the final version of the bailout plan! I’m beyond tired of too many conservatives in general as well as people here on FR still rallying behind RINO’s like Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, John McCain, John Sununu, etc. and then promoting these RINO’s as if they really are conservatives instead! If too many conservatives still can’t even successfully determine a RINO whenever they see one, then all of conservatism won’t successfully advance itself for both the short-term and for the long-term! Conservatism has really lost for good, and it will still take several future elections here before many more conservatives also see things my way! There’s no coming back from the dead, and only dead Democrats count as legitimate votes in the eyes of all leftists! Still, fight the good fight, conservatives, even though it’s really a waste of both time and money now that “leftist dominance” is this country’s long-term future with no actual end in sight. Please prove me wrong on all of this, please! I’m from Massachusetts, and conservatism and Republicanism has been dead here for more than fifty years with no end in sight. I see what’s still presently happening politically in Massachusetts soon going national with no end in sight.

Exactly — just because Junior’s friends want to help him land a cushy post does not mean the party should be insane enough to give it to him.

Let’s face it, the guy lost the small state of New Hampshire as the incumbent, and with a long family political history. Granted it was a tough year, but I have zero confidence that he understands anything about how to roll back the Demagogue tide on a national level.

Not for RNC Chairman. But I like him for Secretary of State.

The RNC position is more of a administrative/managerial position rather than one guided by ideology.

Newt has this experience, because he has been in the minority in Congress, in fact, he was the only GOP Rep in the entire state of Georgia when he first got elected. He had a VISION that the GOP would win control of Congress, and he managed the strategy and the victory. When he left Congress, Georgia had 8 of 11 Reps in GOP hands.

2010 is about finding the BEST people to run in each district, get organized, etc. and run an effective campaign with a consistent message. He can help get this done. He won and stopped Clinton in his tracks.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result.

We’re going to have to disagree on this.

I don’t think Newt’s ever been the RNC chairman before?

Who do you suggest?

McCain must have NO control over the party apparatus, or anything else for that matter. He is a Loser. Newt, otoh, has been a winner.

That Newt strayed into the global warming waters at all says I don’t want him in there. Off the top of my head I can’t name a good pick, but I’m hoping for a provable solid conservative stance going back at least 20 years.

Yeah, pipe dream and all that. Regardless, flip flopping is getting us no where, though apparently somehow it works for the mud skipper.

Richard Armey was also the brains behind the Contract with America. I think he might be the one we need.

Lee Atwater was a great RNC Chair, and I didn’t necessarily know his politics. It didn’t really matter.

Why would we want a loser to head the RNC? This is just ridiculous. NEWT is the man. NEWT is a genius and led the conservative revolution that brought in a Republican majority in the Clinton years. NEWT is the man.
