Don't have any of those either. And my vicious dog ran away, too.

A nice weapon is the 32 Baretta. Small and easy to handle. With the proper ammo, has good impact power.

You could find a decent 12 gauge shotgun....at a local pawn shop. Probably less than $250......
That would be the best for you...IMO.

My husband and I are thinking of buying a firearm for the first time. Recommendations under $500? Handgun vs shotgun or rifle? The initial intent is for home defense (with the paranoia factor of soon not being able to get anything).I'd recommend the shotgun for home defense, because it's likely to be much more forgiving when you're scared out of your wits.
The firing range near here has a number of different types of pistols you can rent to see what works best for you before you buy one.

I dont recall what Ruger did? Ruger supported the original Assault Weapons Ban, as long as "our little gun" was protected.
But never fear the HR 1022 version of the reinstatement of the ban, bans it by name, and by characteristics. (It also bans the M1A1 semiauto version of the M-14 and the Mini-14/30 is based on a scaled down M-14 design.)
