M&Ps are very nice guns. My #2 son has a 9mm Pro with a 5” barrel. I’ve shot it and a put 50 rounds through a M&P.40 when a S&W sales rep was at a local gun dealer’s range last year.
BTW, in October, S&W shipped 7,500 M&P9 pistols to Iraq for distribution to Iraqi military and security forces.
I wonder if Obama approves of his Chicago police departments recent purchase of 275 M&P15 tactical rifles. Oops, I forgot. It’s OK for the police, but he doesn’t want me to own one.

That truly is a shame.
But at least the BATFE doesn’t need to search YOUR house.
That's the point, By Low, at least hope to sell high.
yes, so did I. I simply forgot to mention that... Yeah, that’s right, to strangers, at a loss, for cash.
Have trebuchet, will travel.
These stocks have been more volatile than a saucepan full of gasoline over an open fire oven range.
Come Jan21st when the assault weapons bill is voted and passed, S&W is going to lose an entire division (M&P) to bans.
Do yourself a favor and use the search engine on FR. You will find a TON of information, recommendations and other stuff that should help you make your final choices.
Just get a common caliber and all the high cap mags you can afford as they will be gone next spring.
nope. no searching me. but they’re more than welcome to dredge the swamp. maybe they’ll find the truck that got lost out there while they’re at it :)

All my guns fell off a boat into the Marianas Trench last week. Sad, sad day.
No, but I picked up the next best thing, an SW40VE, two weeks ago. All things being equal, it's the same gun, minus the cool looking camo job.
'Course, you did say ".45", didn't you? I wasn't aware that the M&P came in that caliber. S&W makes the M&P in a .40 cal too.
Dick’s has a brand new Remington 870 12 gauge for $239.
Each, or $239 for both?
I also USED to own a lot of each of their guns... before I SOLD MY ENTIRE COLLECTION last week.
Thats right Mr. Obama and BATFE, I SOLD MY ENTIRE COLLECTION last week...
In honor of the new President elect Barack Hussein Obama, Community organizer, Gun hater. I handed all of my gun collection out to the homeless last week. Hours later after i had gotten home i realized i had forgotten to ask for names, ids, or phone numbers. It was almost like voting for Obama. Oh well i figure this effort will allow the homeless a chance to defend themselves from low life community organizers.
Truly you are more generous and wise than I.
To think, I got MONEY for my guns. I feel like such a low-life capitalist scum-bag.
I think I might need to be “re-educated”.
;^)
Really? Maybe we should get both shotgun and handgun.
As far as a shotgun being better when you are (to quote another poster to this thread) scared half to death... Well, you shouldn't be scared to death. You should be angry as hell!!! You and your husband need to decide what weapon you wish to use for home defense and then get proper training for that weapon that will allow you to defend your home. Master that weapon and know how to properly defend your home with it. Understand the possibilities of a round penetrating not only the bad guy, but walls - and possibly innocent people beyond those walls. You have to do more than purchase the weapon.
This is important, so please, please remember this: If you can not adopt a "Warrior Mindset" and maintain it, you run the risk of having someone take that weapon away from you. The "Warrior Mindset" is one that tells you that when someone has broken into your home, they have invaded your territory and that they are now going to die because of their actions. Thinking that the noise of a shotgun action being worked will scare off a bad guy is a mistake that many homeowners make, and for which the homeowner sometimes pays the ultimate price. Anger at someone breaking into your home, and the ability to harness that anger is key. You have to put all of the anger to work through the skills you have acquired through proper training.
Please make sure you are properly trained...
Not knowing the size of your home precludes me from recommending a shotgun over a pistol... But take into account the width of your hallways, the amount of furniture around which you would have to navigate were you to have to move through your house. Consider that a shotgun may be more powerful, but is also harder to fire at a bad guy should he charge you out of the darkness and force you up against a wall... Sometimes firing a shotgun in home can be like trying to shoot pool on a table that is too close to the wall - you don't have enough room for an aimed shot. A pistol, although not as powerful, allows for easier navigation through the house if there are tight quarters, can be fired at a bad guy at close quarters (even point blank in a "hands on" situation) and will hold more rounds than a shotgun. A revolver offers the same mobility as the pistol, but a lesser number of rounds held in the cylinder (requiring more frequent reloading - if you get into a true firefight.)
Regardless of what you choose, shotgun (12 or 20 gauge pump, nothing smaller), revolver (nothing smaller than .357 magnum, and you can shoot .38's through it for practice), or pistol (9mm is the bottom end of the power spectrum as far as defending your life, so why not go with a .40 S&W, a .357 Sig, or a .45 ACP for the same money?)- GET PROPERLY TRAINED!
Personally, I won't use anything smaller than the .40 S&W or the .357 Sig round for home defense - and those are "hot", factory made defense loads. (Never use reloads for defense unless forced to do so - it doesn't look good in court if you have to defend yourself in a criminal or civil suit.)
I teach this stuff for a living, and have had to put it to use on more than one occasion. Notice, I didn't recommend a brand? That is because I do believe in my tagline... There are a lot of good weapons out there that will do the job, and you generally get what you pay for. I would rather have a 25 year old model 19 S&W revolver with a cracked grip panel and the finish worn off of it than I had a bright shiny new Maverick 9mm pistol. The former may not look great, but it will get the job done. The latter may look good, but I wouldn't bet my life on it for any use other than as a paper weight.
Send me a private response if you wish for me to address your situation more specifically. I don't claim to be the "guru of gun knowledge", but I do have to stay on top of the different subjects regarding guns, or my business wouldn't thrive. If I don't know the answer, I'll tell you so. If it is just an opinion or personal preference, I will make that evident as well...

Good point.....but will they be "public" companies?
Thank you for taking the time to dispense some excellent advice. I’ll be sending freepmail.
