I’ve got two TVs flipping between channels and still would not have known without your thread. The networks don’t seem to be covering this.
Currently watching the coverage on Fox.I’m not sure if i’m still in shock or just numb from all the hype but i’m watching and listening to the commentators on Fox and everyone is so positive.I feel rather detached.Anyways-I certainly hope the inaguration and swearing in proceed safely,orderly and w/out any difficulties.However-only hypothetically speaking(!)-a terrorist attack or attempt would highlight the threat from terrorism.I’m assuming BO will want to close Gitmo,restrict electronic surveylance,and at the same time nueter our intelligence organizations.Pretty hard to deny or minimize the threat when the entire media are present.

I doubt it seriously. It would be counterproductive to the cause.
You know, it WOULD reflect badly on Bush if there was a terrorist attack, because he has done the job. I just can’t imagine one happening, but if there was, what better way (*cough* conspiracy) would there be for a new president to generate sympathy and a mandate for himself. Just saying. If they can say it about Bush, it can be said about Bambi, too.

Plague sweeps Qaida camp in Africa, 40 die

Nearly 40 al-Qaeda fanatics died after plague swept through a training at a forest camp in Algeria, North Africa. It came to light when security forces found a body by a roadside, reports the Sun.
The victim was a terrorist in AQLIM (al-Qaida in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb), the largest and most powerful al-Qaida group outside the Middle East. It trains Muslim fighters to kill British and US troops.
The al-Qaida epidemic began in the cave hideouts of AQLIM in Tizi Ouzou province, 150km east of the capital Algiers. The group, led by wanted terror boss Abdelmalek Droudkal, was forced to turn its shelters in the Yakouren forest into mass graves and flee. The extremists supporting Osama bin Laden went to Bejaia and Jijel provinces — hoping the plague did not go with them. A source said: “The emirs (leaders) fear surviving terrorists will surrender to escape a horrible death.”
Now al-Qaida chiefs fear the plague has been passed to other terror cells — or Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. One security source said: “This is the deadliest weapon yet in the war against terror. Most of the terrorists do not have the basic medical supplies needed to treat the disease. It spreads quickly and kills within hours. This will be really worrying al-Qaida.”
AQLIM boss Droudkal claims to command around 1,000 insurgents. Training camps are also based in Morocco, Tunisia and Nigeria.
AQLIM bombed the UN headquarters in Algiers in 2007, killing 41. Attacks across Algeria last year killed at least 70 people.
In an interview last July, Droudkal boasted his cell was in constant contact with other al-Qaeda “brothers”.

Our straight-arrow, non-biased MSM will: 1.) Add as much suspense to this dreadful day as possible with threatening, “danger” stories like this. 2.) Turn the act of being inaugurated into the most heroic accomplishment imaginable. 3.) “suggest” that white conservatives are all involved in a plot to kill Hussein. 3.) Say the word black nearly as often as making the claim that only Hussein can lead the US to the promised land.
Two things to remember in light of this apparent new threat to the inauguration, possibly carried out by Somalis:
1) In October - a specific AQ threat that US Govt buildings will be attacked with suicide bombers (see below)

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical “note” to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.
Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have “no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States.” The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because “it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics.”
According to the note obtained by NBC News, a “recently discovered audio recording of al-Qa‘ida training sessions conducted several years ago provides instruction to potential suicide terrorists on seizing a publicly accessible building and damaging or destroying it with explosive charges.”

2) Nov. 9, 2008 - AQ message threatens to “OUTDO 9/11” and in it explicitly says that bin Laden is himself closely following preparations for an attack against the US and aims to “change the face of world politics and economics”.

This statement seemed very odd to me at the time. But if an attack (whether today or not) involves Somali suicide bombers, then it makes perfect sense.
The threat has been a coup by someone from Kenya. It happened.
Geez, you’d think that the day after Martin Rufus King day, and the day of the first afro-amerikan el presidente that the east african islamists would at least take a day off.

No one in the media seems to understand how terrorists think.
Terrorists attack WEAKNESS at UNSUSPECTING MOMENTS and according to a LONG RANGE PLAN. When are analysts going to grow up and realize this is not just a bunch of nuts who go “Hey - the inauguration is this week - let’s go after it yeah!”
They will wait until near the middle of his Presidency. When Iran is stronger because of stupid deals we’ll make with them. When Israel is weaker because of our own pro-Arab support. When everyone is sleeping again happy that “it’s been 2 years and Obama has kept us safe!”
THAT is when they’ll try again. And it won’t be Washington, it’ll be the financial center, once again.
Not a chance. No enemy of the U.S. will destroy this golden opportunity they have with Obama as president. They know he will appease them at every turn, or at least as much as he can get away with.
