‘I’d like to remind you that generalizations are almost always wrong.’

You didn’t attend Mariemont Highschool (east side of Cincinnati’s burb’s) in the 1970’s....(chuckle)

There is never anything quite so ridiculous as a high school english teacher.

My HS english teachers were absolutely terrific! My college English Lit. teacher, on the other hand... Well, he was one of those who figured that his master's degree in English made him an expert at everything else too.

Mine were not.

School board fired the whole lot - the entire faculty, couple of years after I graduated.

They know what I’m talking about, and more importantly ‘who’ according to where they were.

Maybe we should just replace Steinbeck and Twain with the poetry of the Inaugural Poet. Great ideas about patching tires and waiting for the bus. Yes we can!

I have read that comic books are making their way into the classroom—even at the high school and college level. If this is true, perhaps Shakespeare, Dickens and Twain will soon be replaced by Mickey Mouse, Porky Pig and Bugs Bunny.

This person assumes that high school kids can read. I don’t think I’d go quite that far.

Teacher proclaims Twain, Lee and Steinbeck irrelevant in Obama age

How dare this teacher proclaim Shania Twain irrelevant!

Webster's definition of Relevant: See above.

Just zapped this article to a friend of ours who is one of this country’s most renowned scholars on Mark Twain. Can’t wait to hear his take on it. LOL!

And Mark Twain said:
“A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes”

That’s why Twain is classic and this teacher is a fool!

“Now that Obama is president ....”

Well, they did not remove “idiot” from the vocabulary when Bush was elected.

In fact its media usage continues to increase.

The pseudo literay elitists went after the Canon and the “DWEMs”: “Dead White English Males.”

Then the apologist-revisionists went after history.

Then they went after the language itself: ebonics, “poetry” slams, texting. . . .

Then they went after the WAMs: White American Males.

All the while, the college English/Lit programs promoted and force-fed the teachers-in-training a model consisting of female writers, gay/lesbian writers, “writers of color,” dissident writers, et al, not in addition to but to the exclusion of the Classics and the Literary Canon. The pressure to conform was enormous, and anyone daring to question or offer a divergent viewpoint/interpretation was made a quick example in public humiliation and chastisement.

It has only gotten worse since I last sat in what was once a hallowed lecture hall.

Twain's Huck and Jim? Arguably, America's greatest-ever satirical work. The effete high priests of academia's ivory tower have no idea what Twain did for them, their country, and why.

Communist Goals (1963)
Documention below
Congressional Record—Appendix, pp. A34-A35
January 10, 1963

Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

. . .

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

. . .

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

. . .

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

. . .

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

. . .

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [”]united force[”] to solve economic, political or social problems.

Let’s just make these authors “unpersons” and delete their names from any history books while we’re at it. In fact, let’s just rewrite all history as just prelude to the advent of the almighty Obamessiah.

Other writers included someone named bell, who wrote so much anti-white stuff it was sickening just to google his comments....

You must be referring to "bell hooks", there. A regular fountain of poisonous (and unreadable) hatred.

But of course, all the books that use the word "cracker" will remain.

And naturally, this just pertains to books. Rap "music" is not only okay, but mandated for study in place of dead white stuff like Mozart and Beethoven.

Ah, Mr. Foley. By that standard, we could pretty much eliminate the rap section of most recorded music retailers.

I have a better idea. Let’s just ban stupid teachers from the classroom, mmkay?
