Didn’t know the federal government was in to the speed trap racket. Should have guessed, though.
I read the article twice and the best I can figure these guys are being indicted for having badly dressed cops?
That way, when you are driving at a safe speed, you get pulled over and fined for it.
Example: There is a roadway that passes through the middle of nowhere, and it's straight and without any major curves/turns/intersections. The speed limit? 35 MPH, and cops hang out there all the time with their traps.
Now, take that into account when we think about my next example:
There is another roadway about 8 miles away that is loaded with intersections, turns and other possibilities for collision, and the speed limit there is 45 MPH. To top it all off, it's an industrial area, which means there are many semi-trucks entering and exiting the roadway. Why am I allowed to drive 45 MPH in the industrial zone, but limited to 35 MPH on the straightway in the middle of nowhere?
The reason is because the 35 MPH zone is intentionally low so that the damn government can take money away from citizens who know how to drive safely at 45+ MPH on the straightway that runs through the middle of nowhere.
And THAT is why I never drive anywhere without my radar detector!

Yep........ A town of 731 citizens making ends meet via the speed trap. Nothing new for LA or for that matter other states as well.
Here’s another in Texas at Duncanville which uses the red light cameras to enhance the city coffers:
2008 numbers.....
Pop. 38,500
Red light citation at four intersections: 44,000+
Ticket cost: $75
Potential Revenue: $3,000,000 + or -

I’ve been told that my home state of Ohio is the worst speed trap state in the nation, but I was never aware that we had this image until recently.
I do recall the New Rome soap opera from a few years ago...

According to Wikipedia, the Mayor is an African-American Democrat.
The relevant paragraphs:
A Tensas Parish Grand Jury indicted Waterproof Mayor Bobby Higginbotham for felony theft, malfeasance in office, payroll fraud and using public funds for personal use.
Waterproof Police Chief Miles Jenkins faces three felony counts for receiving bonuses for meeting traffic ticket quotas and altering traffic citations. The activities of both officials were fueled by federal taxpayer dollars.

remember the MSM rule for politicians.
If there is no party mentioned, it always is a democrat.
Yes, it is. Southern Arkansas, too.
According to Wikipedia, the Mayor is an African-American Democrat.
Wouldn’t be unexpected according to the following info but I don’t think the speed traps are beholding to one race or another.
http://www.city-data.com/city/Waterproof-Louisiana.html
Races in Waterproof:
*Black (87.4%)
*White Non-Hispanic (11.8%)
*Hispanic (1.0%)
*Two or more races (0.7%)
*American Indian (0.6%)
Yea, Louisiana has an open system where you need 50%+1 to take office. Party affiliation is irrelevant.
“Unfortunately, Louisiana is crawling with speed traps....”
That it is!! Waterproof is one of the better known ones in these parts. I always made sure I was at least 5mph UNDER long before I ever hit the town line. Another reaaaal bad one is Woodsworth, LA. Those butt holes there will give you one even if you’re 5 mph under and then challenge you to fight it...most folks won’t. Another is Dequincy, LA...they nail a bunch of Texas drivers coming into LA. Those are the ones that come to mind along with the world famous Golden Meadow, LA.
I'd say it's comparable to White Hall, AL -- another rural town, in Central Alabama.
White Hall annexed the 3 miles of borrow ditches on either side of a rural road to gain access to US 80. Whereupon, they annexed a mile's worth of highway.
It gave city police the authority to write speeding tickets on the highway. And, oh, how they did.
The scheme didn't work all that smoothly, though. Seems the city kept "forgetting" to pay its light bill. As a consequence, court often had to be delayed because there was no power in the courtroom. Meaning, if you wanted to fight the ticket, you had to make a second trip. Or just pay up and go...
The mayor somehow ended up with a luxurious new 6-BR house, though. And he got his half-mile long driveway paved. I doubt the city's residents got squat.
There are literally hundreds of small towns with heavily black populations across the south that are governed by sleezebags like this.
It's a wonder how they keep getting elected. It ain't The Man that's "keepin' them down".
It’s racist. Just a scheme to place another black man in jail, which is disprportionate in black numbers now.
Scum, vermin, despots! Another way for the govt. to extort money from the citizens and ending up in corrupt schemes.
Isn’t government lovely? Scroogie these tasbards to the nth degree!
Ah, for the good old days, when a ten spot would get you out of a ticket in Louisiana.
