Actually, I agree with the most of the rest of the post.....but I don't see the historical evidence that earmarks have much to do with the growth of government. The growth of government was mostly ideological and/or presidential driven. It came in several waves including the New Deal, Great Society, Bush's "opportunity society," and now Obama's socialist dream world. The growth of of government does NOT primarily came from Congress in IMHO. The fish rots from the head (that is the president) down.
If conservatives really want to stop the growth of government they will mount an ideological challenge to big government per se, rather being diverted into silly side arguments about earmarks.
You clean the slime out by seeing a cop hooking a donut, and shooting him, out of hand, right there in the street. A city council who votes for some "social program", with no actual quantifiable goals, that they can loot, the whole bunch swings from a front end loader bucket, on the courthouse steps. A congresspig caught with a sweetheart deal on a house, just for bringing home a little pork sees his family shot before his eyes as he is burned at the stake.
I keep hearing about how we should get "involved" in local government. Screw that. I don't hang around with crackheads, I don't dine with thieves. I'm buying more ammo...
