Wow. I understand business models change and that nothing lasts forever, but as someone who lived in A2 at two different times in my life, this is kinda sad. 174 years is a long time, but I guess that’s life.

this is by no means the end of local journalism in Ann Arbor
...just as when it started operations, didn't mean the beginning.

The Lansing State Journal is quickly heading in that direction. They’re getting beaten up by a weekly freebie, which is even further left than the LSJ.

LOL!
Champion described AnnArbor.com as an innovative, community news and information service
Innovative spelling and grammar usage, I'll grant them that. For the rest, news and info, I'll have to call them to task for using a euphemism when the straightforward word, "propaganda", would suffice.
Their bird cage liner was certainly not going any distance beyond the local community, unless it was to the outskirts toward Ypsilanti, where the recycle center is.

Ypsilanti... has it ever had a bar or other watering hole called Tipsilanti? That just seems like a pretty good idea all of a sudden...

Buggy-whip factories lasted a long time, too. I don’t weep for them.

Tnx. Sorry to see the good folks of AA lose their daily paper. Not sorry to see it happen to the AA news though!

No need to weep for the Newhouses. The folding of the A2 News will be nothing more than a blip on the radar screen in terms of their overall corporate bottom line and their incredible wealth.
And the left-leaning customer base - if they insist on reading a daily newspaper - can read the Michigan Daily, Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Chicago Tribune, or even the New York Slimes. Plus, if they want more left propaganda, there are plenty of events to keep them "energized" on or around the U-M campus.

I don't see a need for a newspaper in all honesty. You can log on to your local news channel website and get up-to-date local news and info as well as live video feed.

I had a discussion w/my leftist sister about this tonight. She was afraid that since some people can’t afford computers, they wouldn’t have access to the news if newspapers folded. Women and minorities...
Personally, between computers and 24 hr cable news, and the network news, I think that people who want this info can access it in many ways. People just aren’t interested in reading the paper. They want the news, but most don’t care about the format anymore. Newspapers as business entities are confusing the format with the content and trying to hold on to an outdated format.

I don't see a need for a newspaper in all honesty. The Detroit Free Press lead the way in investigating, reporting and ultimately bringing Kwame to justice. Which website has the resources to do that?
