“Shortly after [Vermont] Sen. Jim Jeffords switched parties [in 2001], giving the Democrats a one vote majority after it had been tied 50-50, there were some Republican filibusters,” she said. “Jeffords made Sen. Tom Daschle the majority leader and he forced the Republicans to actually filibuster some judicial nominees.

The Senate, as of the pre-election 108th Congress, was composed of 51 Republicans, 48 Democrats, and 1 independent. (The independent, Jim Jeffords of Vermont, was allied with the Democratic caucus and had voted with Democrats to give them the majority in the past.) The Democrats, therefore, needed to make a net gain of at least two seats from retiring or incumbent Republicans to gain control of the Senate. In the election, incumbent senators won reelection in all races but one (Democratic leader Tom Daschle, in South Dakota, lost to Republican John Thune). The seats of retiring senators were taken by the opposing party in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In fact, the only retiring senator whose seat was taken by a member of his party was Republican Don Nickles of Oklahoma, who was succeeded by Tom Coburn.

Republicans gained four seats in the 2004 elections, and entered the 109th Congress with a 55-44-1 lead. While such a majority is formidable, it is still less than the 60 seats needed to override a filibuster and completely control the body’s agenda and procedures.

Ron, we got into it before....

I don't recall but believe me I have many issues with Bush and won't make any excuses for him.

I also understand the anger that many of us have right now as we're watching our Country get sold out and destroyed so there is a tendency to lash out.

IMHO, the only thing that is going to get us out of this mess is a military coup, a nuclear/civil war, or sweeping the congressional election next year and then POTUS in 2012.

With that in mind, I think we should concentrate and work on the latter, though being prepared for the former is a good idea too as any one of them is a distinct possibility.

I agree with everything you say about GWB selling us out to the globalists..........but I don't see the damage in letting foreigners open bank accounts in the US with little documentation. There was a time in this country when your banker was like your priest....secret from all prying eyes including uncle sam.......so my view is we expand this practice of little documentation to include our own citizens.......this is a red herring IMO

When was this? When was a banker like a priest?

A well-placed asteroid strike might work too.

Okay, a tad exaggerated.

But my point is that the feds are so far up our butt in this country when it comes to money and banking that I can't see the damage with this mexican card being used for ID. I mean it does go into the system as a deposit that the US bank can use.

We had it out there. I was a little more angry at the time than I’d have liked. Sorry I took it out on you.
Frankly, I see things about as bleakly as you do. We would certainly agree there.

Sorry, I meant to add this:

Bank accounts, maybe.

What about home loans? Credit cards? Commercial loans?

Here's my problem with Bush's programs and policies.

He opened the US banking and mortgage system to a whole group of people who have no loyalty to the USA. Their loyalty lies in their home country. They're only here to suck off the American teat, giving back as little as they can.

As we're seeing now, once the job market started drying up, these folks with no loyalty to the USA and who may have used a false identity when obtaining their Matricula Consular cards to open a US bank account and obtain a home loan disappeared back into Mexico and leaving Americans to clean up their mess.

You forgot to mention the housing subsidies that caused the bubble.

The damage is that it wasn't used just for bank accounts.

It was used for millions of credit cards, home and business loans.

No Mexican banks accept their own government's Consular ID because the bearer's identity is all but untraceable.

In contrast, thanks to the changes put into the PATRIOT Act of 2001, all US banks can accept it as valid ID, should they choose to do so and most do accept it.

If you think the bankers are your friends, or ever were, you are mistaken.

They want access to your money and that's all they want. They were the ones behind Bush's programs and policies.

Lol...I remember that one, I think we were both a bit po'ed that day. Hey what's done is done.

We need to remember to focus our anger at the a$$hats that put us in this mess, it's tough sometimes though.

To better times :)
