Hi Dave,
What's your take on this flu “epidemic”? I read that medical researchers have said this strain is not as serious as the SSM (State-Sponsored Media) and public health officials are making it seem. I read yesterday that it definitely doesn't rise to the danger of the 1918 strain.
As a layman, I see this flu as a problem only because there hasn't been a annual mass inoculation for it; but otherwise, it's just influenza. Am I wrong?

You are correct. Just the flu. Many people die from flu every year. The problems with this flu are twofold: 1) we don’t have a vaccine for it yet. 2) unlike most other types of flu, humans have never seen this flu before.
Flu viruses recirculate on different schedules. We try to guess which ones are coming out this year by historical patterns and preliminary data to make the vaccine. But many humans have had these flus before in their lifetime and have been vaccinated from them, so there is at least some herd immunity to prevent the virus from spreading like wildfire.
There is no herd immunity for this virus until we get a vaccine out there or it infects a ton of people. Plus, because we have not seen it before, we won’t have much self immunity towards it and therefore it may overwhelm the immunodepressed – elderly, cancer, diabetes, hospitalized patients, infants, etc….. That is why everyone is so cautious right now. Not a lot you can do except limit your exposure to anyone.
The good news is that most viruses don’t replicate and infect well in warmer temperatures. If we can make it until summer, we will get some breathing room (pun intended) to develop a vaccine.

I'm puzzled why your buddy Dave failed to mention this flu is predominately taking the lives of healthy young people? It's not the same as we see in the yearly flu that is fatal to the frail elderly.
IMO, this is a dress rehearsal for what is heading our way this fall, and I am prepared for it. I could care less if others choose to ignore the warnings at their own peril.

Because that’s bogus information. Reread his comments; it’s the FLU; nothing remarkable about it except it’s new!
I read the following on a earlier thread, and parts of this are verifed:
In 2005, 1800 vials of the 1956 H2N2 flu virus were shipped from the who to various labs across the world. 2 of these shipements never were delivered by Fedex ( yes, we shipped one of the nastiest flu viruses via fedex ) the 2 that did not arrive were destined for mexico and lebannon. GWB immediately set aside a coupla billion bucks to deal with a possible outbreak, that did not happen at that time. The current H1N1 is not that serious as far as flu goes, but, if you look at the epicenters of the outbreaks in both central america and europe, the outbreaks are in the area of the lost shipments of H2N2.
Now, her is the conjecture part. It is believed that the H2N2 has somehow combined with the H1N1 to create the H3N2 flu. The reason for the panic is that the H3N2 is on the loose out there, and it is feared that it will spread like wildfire. Note that there never was a vaccine for H2N2.

The source is the Dean of Wake Forrest Med school; one of the top doctors in the nation. There is nothing unusual about who succumbs to this flu strain. They are in his words:

This Chan person is an ABSOLUT moron... Who the he11 will take her seriously going forward... The LIE called Swine Flu epidemic keeps showing how irrelevant it is, and this DOLT keeps raising the fear level, to the highest possible... What a jacka!!
