The Daily Kos also thinks:
fireworks are too much like bombs
puppies are too much like rabid wolves
apple pie was Hitler's favorite
and
Eva Longoria should change her name

As practically every country has its own Boy Scouts, does that mean that every country has it’s own Hitler Youth?
Why single out the United States? After all, you in the left like to claim that all countries are equal and no country is better than any other.

Yeah, I remember my friends' descriptions of Boy Scout activities like camping, knot tying and firing of an occasional Panzerfaust.

"My immediate reaction on reading the article was to think of the Hitler Youth movement in Germany of the thirties..."
As opposed to the Hitler Youth movement in Thailand of the twenties.
Or the Hitler Youth movement in Canada of the forties.
I'm trying to decide if he's a moron or if he's writing for morons.

He's got it backwards. The Hitler Youth was modeled on the Scouts, not vice-versa.
If you take a look at the origins of Scouting and it's British founder Robert Baden-Powell, the Scouts were founded to train boys in preparation for military service, specifically in the skills needed for military scouting (ie, reconnaissance).

Here’s the comment I left in the Daily Kos thread:
A few comments:
The Explorer program as presently constituted is not part of the traditional Boy Scout program; it admits both homosexual youth and adults and does not require it’s members to have any religious or spiritual beliefs at all. So on that basis it’s the most “progressive” program the BSA has.
As far as the ideological or political beliefs of the leaders - first, they’re all volunteers and the BSA makes no inquiries regarding any such factors. If you’ve got a pulse and have no felony convictions they’ll take you. If you’re so concerned about the political balance of the leaders, why don’t you sign up? As I noted above, your sexual preferences and your religious beliefs make no difference. In fact, there is absolutely nothing to stop you from going to your local BSA council with a few buddies and starting up your very own Explorer Post. That is, if you actually care enough about the future of American youth to get away from your keyboard and off your butt and DO something.
Finally, this is not the direction of the entire Explorer program. It is a rapidly expanding part of it because it attracts youth. Make of that what you will, but it’s being driven from the general society on the outside, not the inside of the program. These are not kids joining who are then being molded by this program being imposed on them. They go into these particular Explorer posts knowing what this program is and asking and looking for it.
