If kids can attend school together, they can attend a school social event together.

This is news and as long as this Old South tradition continues, we should be reminded of it every year

It is just absurd, that's all there is to it. After all, what was good for grandpa is good enough for kids nowadays.

I graduated High School in Montgomery Country Maryland, hardly a bastion of back-woods, racist mentality. We also had two proms, only in our case Whites were excluded.

We had our formal school Prom, the following weekend the Black Caucus at my school had theirs.

This was their choice and their choice alone, the school prom was open to all seniors and their dates.

“I’m not kidding, the NYTs and CBS flog this story every year.”

Only the brain-dead are interested in this annual recitation of the Greatest Evil in Modern Society, the segregated high school prom in which two groups have chosen to exercise the right of freedom of association in MS.
This story ranks with the “Mailing Income Tax Returns at Midnight on April 15” as one of the most predictable and least newsworthy enterprises of the msm. Watch for it again next year in May.

Ooops...make that Georgia, in this particular story, but the same is true for some schools in MS.

Hailing from Rockville High School. So where did you graduate from?

The students are not exercising their freedom of association since their parents aren’t allowing an integrated prom. The article says the kids want one prom.

I didn’t say they couldn’t attend a social function together. I said they probably didn’t want to.

The white kids probably didn’t want to dance to rap and jive and the black kids probably didn’t want to listen to....what-ever the white kids like.

What most of you are suggesting is they should all stand around together and be bored as long as it’s politically correct.

Yes, we are two different species. That’s reality.
Two different cultures, always had been that way, always will be.

"I said they probably didn’t want to."

Actually, it was clear from the article the kids wanted one prom. It was the white parents who had a problem with it.

So?

So it's a non-issue. The fact that there exists a Black Congressional Caucus is more newsworthy.

Why is it okay for blacks to have their own separate groups when they decide it's appropriate?

"Jive"? Really?

And do you not realize that rap, hip-hop and dance music are popular among all teenagers, regardless of race? Why can't there be a nice mix of dance music at the prom that everyone would enjoy?

It seems like the kids all get along and would be fine with one prom. The parents, however, seem to be stuck in the 1950s. What a shame.

More white folks buy Snoop Dogg CDs than blacks.

Exactly. And even if the issue really was that different kids like different music (and we all know that's NOT the issue here) so what? I grew up in an area and went to a high school that was nearly 100% white. Guess what? We didn't all like the same music. The "metal heads" liked heavy metal, the "scos" liked disco, the "new wavers" liked new wave (obviously) and on and on. We still all went to the same prom. We didn't break off into separate satellite proms according to what music we liked. That's a red herring. The issue here is skin color not music.

Different cultures yes, but we are not different species. All men are created in God’s image.

As someone else said, this comes out in the press every year. Last year, it went something like this. Black kids wanted rap music and their own kind of hip hop. White students wanted music they could dance to, and to be fair, it is a prom. Can't blame the kids for wanting to dance at it. Anyway, they tried several years to integrate and get the kids to agree, and both sides chose to keep the proms separate. It was all about the music.
