Although these individuals began spying for Cuba under the Carter administration, and kept it up through Reagan, GHW Bush and Clinton, IT IS George W. BUSH'S FAULT. Talk about Bush Derangement Syndrome. What rubbish. They were classic limousine liberal elitists. How wonderful Cuba is! How much better than the United States it is.

Agree! Actually, they are dyed-in-the-wool communists, who took the golden opportunity to help destroy America; not unlike what Obama and his worshipers are doing.

These two need to be waterboarded so they give it all up. How much treason they committed and the Cubans they worked with. After this they get the death penalty or get thrown in the worst prison

Children of the affluent often regard their affluence as unearned, and experience pangs of guilt which is then channeled into left-wing politics.

They are clueless about the means of wealth creation and have no concept of upward mobility, believing that the class one is born into is the class one will die in.

Does “spoiled trust fund babies” come to mind?

Anyway, these treasonous aristocrats deserve to be hanged. Who knows how much blood is on their hands?

“More evidence that lefties are totalitarian at heart.”

I was about to say the same thing....liberals lean towards the law, by the sword...if a liberal decides it is wrong then it is wrong,,,,don’t bother me with facts, my mind is made up...

Sorry, but these wonderful intellectuals felt exactly the same way the President and his wife felt. It is logically inconsistent to elect one to the Presidency and punish the other. I say, pardon his and his wife and give them both high positions in the State Department.

The WaPo has set this out in competely ‘Rat-oriented terms. Let’s let the ‘Rats handle it in a ‘Rat way. Our trying to flay these scumbags in the public square allows the rest of the ‘Rats to use them as scapegoats and to distract us while they get on with undermining the Republic.

We need to get on with building up for 2010, possibly the last semi-free election we will be allowed.

Why on earth are State Department employees not required to take regular polygraphs?

Because the rot runs very, very deep and "short-timer" politicians are terrified of the entrenched bureaucracy's power. State has been compromised since at least the FDR administration and the ideological heirs of those who covered for Hiss remain.

The couple told the agent they eventually wanted to sail to Cuba, according to the court documents. "Our idea," said Kendall Myers, "is to sail home."

Touching /sarc

Don't you just wonder how many more traitorous b@st@rd$ infest the State Department?

people who have had it easy, and don’t know what to do with their guilt feelings.

The picture of the couple's 38-foot yacht at the source was especially ironic. The couple hoped to "sail home" to Cuba in it. Contrast that with the rowboats and other pathetic vessels Cubans still use to escape the hell hole of Cuba! What took them so long to make that "homeward" journey? If only there were some way to sentence the s.o.b.'s to live their remaining years like ordinary citizens in the Cuban "paradise!"

Why the children of the affluent become prone to socialism has always been a matter of wonder to me, especially considering what happens to such people under socialism.

My personal theory involves several factors

(1) It is upsetting to be a person of mediocre ability who has a father of great ability. You cannot match the accomplishments of the person who created the wealth you enjoy, and this gnaws at you as you realize that in your college years.

(2) When you go out into the world, it's worse. Your own abilities are inadequate to land you a job that pays enough to maintain your childhood standard of living, so you either have to live poorer, or depend on your parents to support you, further gnawing at your ego.

(3) The people who do well under socialism are the ones who have established networks of connections with the people who run the government. This is what rich folks do. They go to fund-raisers for politicians, have dinner with them, and interact with them frequently to get zoning variances for their homes, special treatment for their businesses, etc, etc.

I'm going to guess that Myers surgeon dad would have wanted his son to be a doctor too, or maybe a lawyer, or other prominent professional. Myers couldn't hack it. He gets his PhD in European history instead, and becomes a government employee.

My alternate theory is in post #33. It's not guilt, it's ego. They cannot get the status they think they deserve by playing the free enterprise game, and it bothers them.

A planned economy is attractive to people with the arrogance to presume that they would be in the planning class.

"I have become so bitter these past few months. Watching the evening news is a radicalizing experience," he wrote in his diary in 1978, referring to what he described as greedy U.S. oil companies, inadequate health care and "the utter complacency of the oppressed" in America.
What a crock of sheet.
In 1978 almost everyone had 'free' Health Insurance and pre existing conditions were covered after one year. I know I had Blue Cross, a 'preexisting condition' and after a couple years I had surgeries (plural) to correct that condition. And not a peep from Blue Cross or did my surgeries have any effect on the company's premiums for me.

Annnnnd back then preexisting conditions WERE covered because bottom feeding Trial Lawyers weren't getting multi-gazillion dollar awards for mis-diagnosed Toe Nail Fungus so Malpractice Insurance costs for Drs were negligible.

This guy's b*tch seems to be that in 1978 'the oppressed' (aka Blacks) were no longer burning down cities -- and their own neighborhoods (I always got a good laugh at that move).

I don't care how old they are now, EXECUTE this commie pos and his Commie loving wife, screw em. They are TRAITORS.

When liberals blubber about Cuba and Castro, ask them if they’ve read Raoul Valladares. When they say “who?”, cut the conversation off, saying “Oh, I’m sorry, I thought maybe you knew something about Cuba.”

Ever noticed the hard core enviro-socialist stench in Nat. Geo. issues?

Which is why I dropped my subscription a number of years ago.

Yeah, when I ever had time to look at it. I quietly let my subscription lapse after 30 years.
