To call this patronage and favoritism is really just splitting hairs. A “free press” no longer exists within the MSM. We’ll be seeing outright financial subsidies if the Democrats have their way.
"The most effectual engines for [pacifying a nation] are the public papers... [A despotic] government always [keeps] a kind of standing army of newswriters who, without any regard to truth or to what should be like truth, [invent] and put into the papers whatever might serve the ministers. This suffices with the mass of the people who have no means of distinguishing the false from the true paragraphs of a newspaper." --Thomas Jefferson to G. K. van Hogendorp, Oct. 13, 1785. (*) ME 5:181, Papers 8:632
"Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it." --Thomas Jefferson to John Jay, 1786.
"I am... for freedom of the press, and against all violations of the Constitution to silence by force and not by reason the complaints or criticisms, just or unjust, of our citizens against the conduct of their agents." --Thomas Jefferson to Elbridge Gerry, 1799. ME 10:78
"The art of printing secures us against the retrogradation of reason and information." --Thomas Jefferson to Pierre Paganel, 1811. ME 13:37
"The light which has been shed on mankind by the art of printing has eminently changed the condition of the world... And while printing is preserved, it can no more recede than the sun return on his course." --Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1823. ME 15:465
"The art of printing alone and the vast dissemination of books will maintain the mind where it is and raise the conquering ruffians to the level of the conquered instead of degrading these to that of their conquerors." --Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1821. ME 15:334
"To preserve the freedom of the human mind... and freedom of the press, every spirit should be ready to devote itself to martyrdom; for as long as we may think as we will and speak as we think, the condition of man will proceed in improvement."-- Thomas Jefferson to William Green Munford, 1799.
"No experiment can be more interesting than that we are now trying, and which we trust will end in establishing the fact, that man may be governed by reason and truth. Our first object should therefore be, to leave open to him all the avenues to truth. The most effectual hitherto found, is the freedom of the press. It is, therefore, the first shut up by those who fear the investigation of their actions." --Thomas Jefferson to John Tyler, 1804. ME 11:33
In this last statement may be found the reason for the current administration's over sensitivity about FOX's exercising its rights to be objective and critical.
Hey, I lost the hard copy 20 years ago, lost any urge to dabble in the business when Dad died ten years ago, and if Nancy Piglousy wants to purge my record, I'll pick up a relic 100 watt mobile unit, kit out a mini-studio in my van, and drive around the East Coast broadcasting 'The Viking's Valhalla' pirate radio until they run me off a bridge. Rush Limbaugh with horns and Iron Maiden bumper music.
I’ll fight to keep all of us out of RM 101.
I wonder what mischief one could create with some giant electromagnets. Hmmm.
*KA-CHING!* Great connect-the-dots! THIS is real reason why Hussein was back-burnering all those flying, screaming a$$holes on the left who were frothing at the mouth to reanimate the UnFairness Doctrine, the second they felt they gained some sway with The Messiah! There was no way he could pursue an assault on the 1st Amendment and use a national network as a sanctioned, 'voluntary' propaganda arm. These bitch-bastards are pure, sub-simian evil to the core.
I used to have my FCC third class ticket (with broadcast endorsement, the much sought-after Element 9!)... and I, too, remember that.
Don’t have my hard copy ticket any more, either. It was the big orange one, not the clip and save piece from Sears.

It is absolutely amazing what this president is getting away with! Fortunately he is only fooling himself, and the shameless communists fools running the nations news outlets. The 2010 elections are going to be a big surprise to both.
They are not acting as “an agent of any government entity,” rather said government entity kindly allowed people “more access” to everyday process of government than “very secretive” previous administration, from which this “government entity” inherited all kinds of domestic and foreign policy problems.
Without the sarcasm, though, I’d always prefer to deal with the entities that are self-assured enough to allow themselves to drop the pretense and the masks of impartiality, evenhandedness or morality.
As they say, “now that I know who you are, we can talk about the price” and it didn’t cost us anything to find out who they are. That’s the kind of transparency we should welcome, not complain about!
'Bootlegger's Turn'. That's a new one, but we're definitely on the same wavelength here. LMAO Try one. Going uphill. On a winding curve, doing 60. And live to tell about it. I did, in a '75 Vega hatchback, with six people inside. ROTFLMAO Narrowly missed two cars, and scared the bejeezus out of everyone, including a cheerleader, my girlfriend on the drill team, and a guy hanging out the back of the open hatch.
Damn, I was good back then. Or bad. You decide.
Oh shit. I think both episodes happened the same night. ROTFLMFAO
OK, you drive.
I believe that Chris Matthews has first dibs on that privilege.
Oh the libs just can’t help themselves. Bill Clinton was alright, but he always had (to the east coast libs) that air of being just a jumped up redneck with pretensions of grandeur. Now Obama, there’s the real thing. An actual leftist and not a fake one like Slick Willy. Ole Bill just wanted to be loved. Obama demands that you adore him.
