Guess public libraries ought to be banned too, after all isn't that 'content sharing' also? The book is paid for only once and 'shared' with hundreds or thousands of readers ... and the publisher gets stiffed out of rightful copyright compensation ...
/slight sarc off

Wow, too tired to get into why you are completely wrong, but you are. There is a viable middle ground, and in fact most businesses and artists live in it quite well right now...

Um, the freelancer did, but a simple limited assignment of rights would cover the issue.

In the digital age you can either have free access to all data or a police state...these are the only two choices. Exactly!
Posner's a sad case. He could have been a contender.

This Judge's judgment seems faulty, and his modest proposal is gonna sink like a lead ballon Really! A mind is a terrible thing to witness spiraling down the porcelain chute. Poor Posner.

Stupid reasoning. Most of us bloggers use only what allowed under fair use laws and linking back to the newspaper article sends readers to the paper, not away from it.
The print media is dead, this will help kill the online media some have set up.

Posner supports partial-birth abortion and has recently published a book entitled The Failure of Capitalism. But the Left insists on calling him a "conservative."

bar linking to or paraphrasing copyrighted materials without the copyright holder's consent I guess no students can write any class papers based on current events.
Two MSM news sites, each with a reporter at a news conference: which is the copyright owner, and which is the "paraphraser" for publishing the same facts/quotes and posting them on their own sites in their respective articles?
Or are "journalists" to be excepted, and only "bloggers" and other peasants to be barred from "paraphrasing"?
