Don’t fire if there is a civilian within 10 miles.

MILES?? What the heck??

What was that the Gen Patton said? Something like “The object is not to die for your country, but to make the other poor bastard die for his”? Something like that. Seems like these people have it backwards.

It's been over six months since your hated Chimpy Bush left office, how much longer can you blame him?

Huh?

Realistically?

They ran against Hoover for 50 years.

Nixon for 25 years.

Bush? If the trend continues, 12 1/2 years...

I won’t say that I don’t care about casualty numbers, that would be crass and honestly untrue. But I cannot stand by and say nothing if we, those who hated the media for using body counts to discredit the war, use the same tactics to discredit the same war with another guy in the oval office.

The point is - the war in Afghanistan is necessary and just.

I will stand by my position then - consistency matters - and take the same position now:
- If you are going to tell me about casualty numbers tell me what they are doing. Increased combat tempo and offensive ground operations often lead to higher casualty rates. It is that sad and unfortunate truth that if we are to fight to win we must go into the dangerous places, and soldiers may be hurt or killed. Tell me the accomplishments when you tell me casualty rates.
- Support the troops in the field always. If you don’t support their mission, if you are not rooting for victory, then you are not supporting the men on the ground. You cannot hope for the mission to fail, despite who is in charge, because failure means deaths in vain.
- Don’t fall into the trap that ‘they did it so we can do it’ in terms of how we criticize this administration. People for some reason LOVE to rail on and on about hypocrisy - but in my opinion cries of hypocrisy are mot often leveled as the weak last argument when all others have failed.

It is a valid political topic and discussion. However, this is an opportunity to show not that they are wrong, but that we were right all along. Fight to win, and don’t let the media deter us from using the best available tactics and strategy because the headlines might show a number that looks bad.

There is nothing legitimate about this mission. Our troops are fighting this with their hands tied behind their backs.

B as in B...S as in S.

I'm sorry your comment shows an extreme lack of knowledge of..
1 Why we are in Afghanistan. Hint: GWOT
2 How this battle is being fought. Hint: COIN (Counter-Insurgency

You're sounding like some DUer in 2006.

BlueNgold”Fight to win, and don’t let the media deter us from using the best available tactics and strategy because the headlines might show a number that looks bad.”

That is exactly the point. We are NOT fighting to win anything. We are just fighting.

Valin: My “extreme lack of knowledge” is only exceeded by your extreme willingness to believe that the obama administration has a legitimate reason for what he is doing. There is none.
I never questioned WHY we are in Afghanistan. I KNOW why we went there. What I question is obama’s commitment both to the WOT AND our Military.
He arbitrarily changed the ROE to hamstring our Troops. Hamid Karzai is at best a paid lackey who has no fealty to US except that we keep him propped up and he insures the drug flow is maintained. Nothing we are doing there is going to help the people of Afghanistan, and it doesn’t further our own National Security. It doesn’t stop the radical takeover in Pakistan. It doesn’t check Iran.
The whole lay of this “war” is completely different than the one in Iraq. Our troops are being misused and if that is BS, rhen I am in good company.
A couple of months ago, I spoke with a very good friend of mine, and I said that I was expecting them to pull osama bin laden out of his grave so they would be able to “go after him” and kill him, for the glory of obama.
Sure enough, a VIDEO tape shows up last week purporting to be osama NOW. It was supposedly being “authenticated.” Have you heard a SINGLE word about it since?
No, I didn’t hink so.
This is a criminal administration. They will do anything to screw us AND the Military.
Defend them if you wish, but don’t accuse me of being ignorant of the facts. I am not.

No. I MEANT Colin Powell, the architect of our “stop before we win” strategy in the Gulf War, and in Iraq.
