If a black police sergeant responded to the call of a possible breaking and entering, and asked Gates for some form of identification, what would have happened then?That's easy. Gates would have called him a "Tom" or a "Puppet for Da Man". Liberals have a general hostility toward police, even as they are busily building a Police-state.

The man with Gates was a taxi driver who dropped him off at his house.... which raises the possibility of Gates being intoxicated...

his arrogance and rudeness. Arrogance and rudeness are not grounds for arrest in a free America. The cop felt the need to show who's boss after being insulted in front of others. A person that cannot handle the public in all its forms should not be a cop. Fire him.

I know that I trust Crowley, a public servant sworn to protect (and a racial profiling TEACHER, for heaven’s sake) a whole heckuva lot more than a man determined to dismantle everything good about our country.
Crowley showed a ton more class and respect towards the racist Gates than racist Obama did to all white police officers in calling the cops “stupid” on national television. The idiot thug in the WH is the most embarassing president EVER. I just can’t stand this!
