It's attributed to two Jacksons: Andrew and Stonewall!

From an earlier reply on the same subject:

The attribution of the quotation definitely goes to Stonewall Jackson. It has been erroneously attributed to Andrew Jackson no doubt by sloppy historians who confused the names. It has also been falsely attributed to General Patton probably because he has uttered similar words concerning the effects of fear. I think it probably appeared in the movie but the original quotation goes to Stonewall Jackson.

I'm not certain of this but my recollection is that upon retiring from the Shenandoah Valley at the conclusion of his campaign of 1862 and en route to Richmond to join Lee, a staff officer was dispatched to find lodgings for the night. He advised Jackson that he feared he would find nothing and Jackson at that point replied, "never take counsel of your fears."

I haven't had time to research it but I think that is accurate, however, I will not be surprised if my recollection is faulty but only as to particular circumstances of the incident but not to the attribution to Stonewall Jackson.

To understand the real significance of the quotation from Jackson one must understand that it was uttered by a man of profound faith and he was really saying trust God rather than entertain fears. So profound was his faith that he was astonishingly fearless on the battlefield and had no discernible regard for his personal safety.

I would not be surprised to learn that Patton also used the words or similar words. Keep in mind that his father fought in the Civil War. I know there was a major Patton who served ably and bravely under Jackson in the Valley campaign of 1862 but I have not been able to determine if that was George S. Patton's father. If it was it would be quite normal for him to pass that part of the Stonewall legend onto his son if he was indeed that man.

Whether learned that the knee of his father or otherwise, Patton was fully familiar with the lore of the Confederacy especially in Virginia and was well-versed in "Stonewall Jackson's Way." Indeed, there were many shared characteristics in their generalship including celerity of movements, focus and intensity of attack, ruthlessness in discipline, personal piety, and physical bravery. Both were touchy about their prerogatives of command. I would say that the comparison pretty much ends there because Patton was a calculating showmen and Jackson was the most diffident of men when the demands of duty did not call for resolution and sternness.

I beg to differ. We know plenty about Zero. More than we ever dreamed we’d know.....and none it is good. All of it bodes ill for a free and prosperous America. He’s a radical Marxist America-hater. Pure and simple. Our fears? They consist of our failure and his success.

Fear of Zero’s successful attempt to ruin this country is what we are fearing. That, and fear of our failure to stop him before it’s too late.

There is no doubt, at least in my mind, that Xero and the socialist DemocRats will ramp up their plans to force government-run healthcare down our throats. Same with Cap & Trade/Tax. The 9/12 rally will only serve to hasten their agenda. When they do that, when they deliberately go AGAINST the will of the majority of the citizens of this country....maybe THEN it will be pitchfork time. If not, when the hell would it be? After we’ve been nuked by our enemies, Zero’s Muslime buds, into submission?

“His Organizing for America went AWOL. “

Well, that explains the dust from the Rahm cockroaches scrambling under the rocks.

(Breaking news concerns the million-plus 9/12 marchers searching Washington for politicians to tar and feather. And the Grand Seigneur was where last Saturday? In Minnesota, on a speaking trip that I'm sure had been planned for quite some time. In contrast, when a large-scale anti-Vietnam march descended on Washington in 1971, Richard M. Nixon, nobody's hero figure, left the White House to go among the marchers, discussing matters with them until late at night.)
Thanks neverdem.
