Brazil's socialist president “Lula” is a classic Latin demagogue loudmouth, a friend of Castro and Chavez. During the 2007 Pan Am games, he forcibly returned Cuban defectors to the Cuban Gulag. He has talked of broadening and deepening his ties with Iran and has scheduled a visit there in the coming months. Asked about the Iranian strongman's Holocaust denials, Lula says that is his opinion and he is entitled to it. Lula says Iran has as much right as any country to nuclear facilities. Lula objects to US-Columbia military cooperation. All of the above is to make the point that Lula will appeal to the Third World delegates and representatives of comic-opera tyrannies in a way that even Hussein Obama cannot. Not a done deal. Chicago's biggest advantage is probably language. Almost no international visitors will speak Portuguese while English is the de facto international middle class language.

At the daily chatroom for a mid-morning local talkradio show host who is a friend of mine, I talked to the other chatters about Obama going to Denmark for this bid. Said one of the bidding cities, Rio, and with Chicago are what I believed are the top two. Was told by one when down in that part of Brazil, hotel clerk said keep valuables in the safe because they will not go home with you. Also security guards posted where the hotel guests swim for safety. Talk about crime infested cites, both Chicago and Rio compete. Plus I sense Obama is “owed” the games just as Blair and the Chicoms were.

Plus Obama is still very popular in a number of countries, even if we do not like him here.

Obama is owed nothing. The circumstances surrounding the London and Beijing candidacies are far different from the US having the games three times in the past 32 years.

I still believe that Rio will get the bid. Crime or no crime, there has never been an Olympics in South America. Brazil is among the best loved countries around the globe due to their football prowess and ethusiastic fans. You can bet that most of Latin America will vote for Brazil along with many other countries in the third world. And with France and Spain both backing Rio, there could be plenty of support in Europe and their former colonies.

The suspense won't be long. We will have an answer on Friday. I vote for Rio.

Like it or not, and I do admire Brazil’s effort’s to go for the Olympics, and I am not crazy at all for Obama as many on FR all, Chicago has the 2016 games. From the IOC’s perspective, as Rio would be the first city in South America to get it, also because the world considers the election of Obama, even with divisive issues, a first as in first black American elected, that will favor Chicago.

Obama isn't satisfied with being king of the US.
He wants to be king of the world.
He needs to make a big splash at the UN and to host the Olympics.

He'll probably get a Nobel Prize, too.
