Continuing to fight _might_ get the Senate version thru (”better than nothing”), but at continued casualties to demoralized congressional troops.
Keep pushing until it stalls completely is the most likely option, but leaves the most embarrassing train wreck.

They need to just walk away, but will insist on driving this monstrosity until it’s a smoldering ruin for all to gawk at.

Actually, the whole “mess” is Massachusetts was a direct result of the Dems messing with the laws to meet their political need.

They feared Romney appointing a Senator so they quickly changed the law to force a special election. Which was left in tact to pave the way for Scott Brown.

Then; when Deval Patrick became Gov they changed it back to allow the Governor to appoint the replacement; so they would have the votes for healthcare.

So Kirk was apointed to fill Kennedy's seat. Otherwise the seat would have been vacant until the special election. - Tom
