Once the Boston totals were in Coakley conceded the race.
There was article in the Boston Globe the day before the election stating lack of enthusiasm for the election in minority districts. Blue Hill Ave, an 8 mile main road through a black neighborhood in Boston had exactly two Coakley signs.
U.S. President (2008) Obama 1.9 M, McCain 1.1 M.
U.S. Senate (2008) Kerry 2.0 M, Beatty 0.9 M.
U.S. Senate (2006) Kennedy 1.5 M, Chase 0.65 M
So it looks slightly higher than the last off-year election.
