Not to mention that these semi-permanent RV’s park along busy streets and completely obscure a turning driver’s view of the oncoming traffic. You feel like you are gambling every time you inch the nose of the vehicle into traffic. These so-called RV’s should not conjure images of luxury - they look more hobbyist and Ken Kesey-like. Many are not roadworthy, but the LAPD, LA County Sheriffs and Santa Monica PD don’t seem to crack down.
They’re currently trying to circulate petitions to get “no oversized vehicle parking” signs put up.
That’s not the California way. They haven’t learned.
What needs to be done is present the problem to the state legislature who will approve $500,000,000.00 of state funds to build a state of the art homeless RV park with showers, banquet rooms, cafeteria, movie theater and other conveniences such as free hookups, electricity, cable etc. for these people. We need to be fair.
Not mentioned in the story is that the good Councilman and other city services were informed for many days and did NOTHING. Only when an intrepid KFI AM 640 radio reporter got a (literal) whiff of this story did it even get attention from anyone.
gonna be a lot of that come November.......
Hazmat crews to clean up poopie water? If they’re federally funded then we have government waste on top of human waste.
Obama will reclassify them from “homeless” to “outdoors men”.

KFI Investigation: ‘A Crappy Day In Venice’
A Hazmat team has had to clean a sewage spill in Venice...a week after it happened.
Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Last week, in the middle of the night, a resident on Pacific Avenue noticed an RV parked the wrong way in front of her home. She heard some noise, then noticed a passenger getting out of the RV, and removing the cap to the sewage tank. The woman jumped back into the RV and drove away intentionally allowing gallons of sewage to spill out onto the street.
The resident called 911 and the LAPD was able to track down the RV. The resident made a citizen’s arrest and the woman was taken into custody. Despite numerous calls and complaints, the raw sewage remained on the street for days. Finally, residents notified KFI News and I began making calls and inquiries. Finally, after 6 days, councilman Bill Rosendahl’s office requested a clean up crew to go to the area and remove the waste. I was there while the crew cleaned up the mess from Pacific Avenue.
When asked why it took a week to respond to requests for cleanup, a Rosendahl aide told me it was the first he’d heard of it. At least 7 residents confirmed a face-to-face meeting with Rosendahl last Thursday in one of his satellite offices.
On Tuesday night a resident called to tell me the city contacted her to notify her that one of the areas where RV’s typically park was declared a bio-hazard and the LAPD was evacuating RV’s.
>>This whole report is suspicious. I have an rv, have friends who have rvs, have been to many rvs rallys and rv parks. Never have I observed any rver dump on a street or any other inappropriate place. However, it would be very easy for people who don’t want a large rv parking on their street to pull the dump handles without the rv owner knowing (like at night or when they are away from the vehicle) and then report it. And I just bet that is what’s happening. <<
Exactly. You can drive to most truck stops on the highway and dump. You can go to a campground and dump for 5.00.
I think this is a way to get rid of the rigs.
Here in Tennessee we have lots of mobile homes. We call them trailers.
Hmmm. Doesn't Medea Benjamin live in Venice? (Idea...)
Is Dave Matthews in town for a concert?
I was there in 72.
Not sure how it’s done now but at that time .. Everything was ‘flushed’ directly into the canals.
I bet that the fly infestation in the good old days was something to behold too.
If thats the case she fits perfectly there
Exactly! Most of the RV’ers I’ve known were older and responsible sorts. This story is bizarre, and like you, I think there is something else going on that is unstated.
I lived in an RV for a while in the national forest around Flagstaff. There were lot’s of people living out there in rv’s and tent trailers, who had day jobs in town. You had to keep moving around to stay ahead of the forest service, but I got to recognize many of the rigs camped out there.
Did they dump their waste in town?
That's the correct one.
Too bad those companies that outsourced their call centers or tech support sites can't seem to hire "correct British English" speakers...
