I didn’t know anything about the change over, but we did thow out a near full box of the stuff because, after checking washer and finding it wasn’t the problem, it was the detergant

If you have a Costco in the area, try their “Kirkland” brand liquid dishwasher detergent. My new dishwasher and I have loved the stuff and it is almost as cheap as Cascade powder.

Can these people cross state lines to get phosphate detergents?

Thank you, Mrs. Z. I’ll give it a try.

I’m currently using Cascade and notice no difference. Maybe Virginia isn’t one of the 17?

Do you have soft water?

We don't, and, since the change, Cascade Complete now leaves that nasty white film on all our dishes.

Can hardly wait for the CFL's to kick in.

> Do you happen to know what Cascade Complete has that their regular stuff does not?

The magic ingredient is: TriSodium Phosphate.
Liberals hate it and we won’t have clean dishes until we delete the EPA.

This is also affecting commercial cleaners.

Oh, I can get behind that, Jack! /EPA!

I've been hoarding the old style light bulbs. I am in the hazardous materials business and my company is looking forward to charging an insane amount of money to dispose of of the new CFLs. For those who do not know, there is mercury in the new CFLs and if that gets into the landfills, the EPA will be yelling about mercury in the water again like they did 30 years ago. CFLs DO NOT last as long as the old bulbs. If they are used in different positions, they bulb out quicker. You can't use them with dimmer switches. They may be cheaper to purchase, but they don't last as long. I'm also sure as soon as there are no longer any of the old style bulbs on the market shelves, you can bet your ass the prices will jump, knowing we have no choice but to but them.
I love saving the environment, only problem is, we won't be with CFLs. Almost like the 1.8 gallon toilets to save water. Now we have to flush three times to get everything to go down. Proves we can't improve on things made in the past.

I haven’t seen posts here about the new he top loading washers. We have a new GE and use “he” detergent. Even with naturally soft well water I have to run whites through the “heavy wash” cycle twice with bleach the first time and rinse twice. Same issue with my husband’s work jeans. The washer’s idea of “agitation” would best be described as “mildly disturbed.”

How does this save water or electricity?

Looking at the package right now...

It has "Grease Fighting Power of Dawn" plus "Shine Shield" (whatever that is). Half of it is a blue liquid that looks like jet dry. Maybe I'm not picky enough. I moved into this house last year and this was the first dishwasher that I've had in 20+ years. My dishes are clean with no streaking, I'm happy. :-)

We don’t own a dishwasher. Looks like we won’t be getting one anytime soon, either....

Hmmm, I'm not having a problem with the new HE washer, but we did get a cool one made in Australia. :-)

It's a Fisher&Paykel, love it.

Thank you, RepublicAngel. I tried the Cascade with “the power of Dawn” (but not the Complete, with “Shine Shield” because I already use JetDry).

Switching to the “power of Dawn” product slightly improved my diswashing results, but it was in no way comparable to the old product where the dishes were squeaky clean. I frequently have to put several dishes back in the washer because of small food particles left on them, as well as a gritty feeling all over the dishes.

I’ll have to give the Cascade Complete a try, too. Otherwise, it’s off to the hardware store for some bulk TSP.

Regards,

There will now be a seven day waiting period when buying Cascade.

Mewz...I was 40 years old when I finally got a dishwasher (we redesigned the kitchen).

I gotta tell you...having one is a convenience on a regular day and a blessing on the high-traffic days like Thanksgiving. It’s great to be able to prepare your food and wash the prep stuff while the grub is cooking, then wash the cooking gear while you’re eating, and then load the thing up one more time to wash the actual dishes while having dessert.

(The dessert stuff can wait ‘till the next day.)

Meanwhile, your kitchen doesn’t look like a hurricane blew through it right after dinner and you don’t have to go in there and say...”Oooo boy. Where do I even start?”

But after reading this thread, I can’t say I blame you for your reluctance!

Regards,
