What me worry?
They would never violate Cuban air space!

Iranian Shahab 3 (range 1300-1500 km),
The straight line distance between Miami and Caracas is approximately 1383 miles or 2226 kilometers.
http://www.findlocalweather.com/forecast.php?forecast=pass&pass=distances&dpp=0&pands1x=Miami,+FL&pands2x=Caracas+&Find+distance=How+far+is+it%3F

I do hope the reporter has that miles kilometer thing worked out?

I just watched an interesting documentary on the history channel about a company that sells underground bunkers. Most of their business is in DC and they’re very tight lipped.

Well, duh?

There’s probably a lot more there than that! While we worry and fiddle about a dirty bomb crossing the border....

Chavez is probably building a nuke launch site! C’mon....

Iran and Venezuela didn’t have the “gold mine” exchange for nothing. Sometimes it is necessary to revisit old articles for recent historical perspectives.

Think about Florida, a thin peninsula. Then consider the accuracy. There is more water than land and more everglades and prairie than city. Then consider who is operating the missiles.

Odds are considerably in your favor.

Besides that, Miami is the capital of South America and is a more desirable target in spite of CentCom in Tampa.

range 1300-1500 km

About 780 - 900 miles.

km * .6 = miles.

Whoops! My bad. The previous one was 1500 nautical miles.

I meant to enter "km" when I generated the map, but entered "nm" instead. Here's the correct map:

The only part of the US they could hit would be Guantanamo Bay. :-)

Of course, we don't know for sure that they haven't somehow upgraded the range.

I think their main goal is to threaten/hit the mainland US. They don’t care where.

If deployed, these missiles do threaten US interests in the Caribbean. The Panama canal, Mexican and US oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico, and various US military bases (Guantanamo?) come to mind. Refer to wikileaks for a list of other potential targets. Besides that, how do we know that a future upgrade won't boost their range to include CONUS? This is a big security issue.

PR is part of the United States. Probably not a huge target of course.

I'm sure Cuba wouldn't mind that the ones that fall short land on them.

Oh I agree its a huge security issue. Please allow me to be relieved for a few minutes that they can’t put one of these in my living room.

On the plus side Chavez nationalized the missile launchers union and there’s nobody left who knows how to push a button.

Russia offers Venezuela nuclear help
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3871261,00.html

Putin also pledged to keep selling arms to Venezuela. Chavez’s government has already bought more than $4 billion in Russian weapons since 2005, including helicopters, fighter jets and 100,000 Kalashnikov rifles. “We will continue supporting and developing Venezuela’s defense capabilities,” said Putin, who headed back to Moscow after the one-day visit.

He noted Russia has agreed to lend Venezuela up to $2.2 billion for additional arms deals and said Venezuela has yet to use any of those funds. Chavez said the two governments ...

So much more going on down there than anyone cares to imagine. And 0bama is not fit for command...

I think it would be more like a nuclear blackmail threat, and PR would probably be acceptable to them.

I forgot that the US Virgin Islands are also within that circle.

For once I would like to wake up and be met with Good News. Something along the lines of, Zero Resigns, Congress Resigns, New Elections Coming

on the elections (America has to wait till 2012 and this is not good news). I need a jolt of happiness.
