That may be very true of the past, but the recent history indicates that much of the trading now goes on in gold and oil backed notes.
The gold positioning of Russia, Iran and Venezuela took place in 2007. That is what many are missing here. China is in this mix too.
The stage is already set with a lynch pin.
I chuckle at the folks here who act like...oh...those missiles can’t reach here. Really? Iranian missiles duds...how many billions were spent with Russia to secure arms, to secure nuclear technology?
Sure they are working in sovereign notes, but those notes are now backed by a commodity. Gold and Oil.

The Cold War never really ended. The other side just went underground for awhile and reworked their strategy. Although technically the Cold War was the US vs. the USSR, in reality it was always more fundamentally free capitalist society built on individual self-determination vs. centralized socialist/communist society in which there is no individual freedom. As long as socialist/communist advocates exist and have a base from which to plot, the ‘Cold War’ will always exist. The collapse of the USSR actually made it easier for them in some ways, as the West stopped taking the threat seriously.
