YOu said “Correlation is not causation.”

That is INDEED 100% correct.

Probably people who are overweight drink diet sodas DUH!

This does not mean that diet soda is MAKING them fat.

Likewise, obese people are more likely to die of heart attacks.

It’a about like saying that simply buying large size clothes raises your chance of heart attack. Nope, has although there is a STRONG correlation, it’s an INVERSE causal factor.

If the public is so stupid as to believe this sort of bunk, they might even beileve in Global Warming......

I say this, as I sit here in Dallas, where the forecasted low tonite is 12 degrees, as part of the THIRD major winter blast Ice/Snow we have received this year. Idiots won’t stop believing global warming / climate change no matter what. There are enough bad scientists and lying media to convince people of anything.

FWIW, I quit drinking diet pop (sole change in my diet) 14 years ago and lost 15 pounds in a couple of months. I've never gained it back. Lost a few more pounds when I stopped consuming anything that is labeled “low-fat, lite, healthy, etc.”

The study may be flawed, but I will never believe that lab created food is better for one’s health than food made by God.

LOL. Love your comment.

I used to drink a full liter of caffeine free diet Pepsi every day in addition to about 15 cups of leaded coffee each day. An odd combo but I loved the taste of the Pepsi.

Reached a point where it would take me about 20 minutes to stand straight after getting out of bed. About that same time, I first got on the net and discovered the miracles of aspartame. I quit drinking the sodas the next day. Four days afterward, I had no more problems standing erect (posture wise). That was September of 1997. Haven’t had a soda since and avoid aspartame like the plague. Gave up coffee too. Drink water only now and an occasional decaf coffee. Aspartame is nasty business.

I have never understood soft drinks in the morning. It sort of feels like adolescence never overcome...

Some of us could never quite get accustomed to drinking hot bean juice. Any drink that you have to spend time and money by adding sugar and cream to just to make half way palatable seems like a waste. As for me, I'll stick to my 10 a.m. Mountain Dew, lovingly chilled to a perfect 40 degrees. Man, that's like liquid velvet. Just about the same caffeine as your bean juice, none of the crappy aftertaste.

I’ve never liked the taste of diet drinks. Maybe that has saved my life...

Let’s see: Fat people who eat too much junk food try to be good and have a diet soda. These fat people have more heart attacks.

Like Rush once said, “Diet Coke must cause obesity, all the fat people are drinking it!”

Association is not causality.

Causation?

Because fat folks tend to drink more diet soda? Because they are trying to lose weight?

Did they control for weight and activity levels?

Did they control for the fact that diabetics can pretty much only drink diet soda? Diabetics sadly have more heart trouble.

I quit drinking diet soda, too, to test the theory. Went from my 1-3 per day to mineral water for several weeks.

Didn’t lost an ounce.

If it weren’t for diet Coke, this country wouldn’t know what to do with its toxic waste.

I don’t love diet coke, but I just can’t drink coffee. Stuff turns my stomach, though I can drink the iced coffee drinks from Starbucks. Diet coke is cheaper.

Well, guess what? Being fat is not the dire health threat it is portrayed to be, either.

Over the past several decades, average weights have increased and deaths from heart disease have declined. And, no, this was not due to modern treatments (which often cause more harm than good).

Check out the posts on the “obesity paradox” at http://junkfoodscience.blogspot.com/

Most of what passes for scientific studies and reporting is biased nonsense. People get grants for conducting studies that arrive at a desired conclusion. If the masses believe something, it’s probably not true.

Aspertame is used in many diet beverages, it is proven to have serious side effects. I can’t stand a coke that uses it. This was written up in Readers Digest in the 80’s. The FDA agreed but said it didn’t affect enough people to warrent pulling it. Now it’s 25 yrs later,,,,,,,,,

The increased likelihood of vascular events remained even after Gardener and her colleagues accounted for risk factors, such as smoking, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

They didn't factor in obesity ... DUH

According to the Dr. Who runs the Henery Ford Medical group, the study is flawed and did not have good controls.

Kind of like the 400 Lb guy who walks into McDonalds and super sizes everything and then asks for a diet coke.

They will pry my Coke Zero away from my cold, dead fingers.

Same with my Diet Mountain Dew. Diet is STILL better than drinking sugar water.
