"Except the timing chain was a &*#&^@ to change. "
My '66 had gears to drive the camshaft.

Except that the heater was useless, it was about as noisy as the inside of a cement mixer, and it handled bumps like a bicycle.

TDI direct injection diesel gets 40 MPG or better and can be had in some VW models.
And it is possible to peel out with a TDI.

Somebody squashed the Bug!
Woulda been better if they had made it appear more chop-topped than just squashed.

Now it looks like an Audi.
To: Pan_Yan
The original Audi TT was a VW Gofl frame from the side mirror on down with a different skin.
Somewhere in the second iteration of the TT they moved to something similar to teh Beetle frame which let you put TT bod panels onto the Beetle.
(Look up BeeTTle, a VW beetle with TT body panels.)
I suspect this is the reverse of the above trend.

Uhm, actually...I didn’t own a bug. I drove 1970 Buick LeSabre. Grass is always greener...
Btw; that thing sure took off from a stop light!

Timing chain? On an old Beetle?
You know what else was hard to change on an old Beetle? The radiator.
To: al_c
A matte black, chopped-top, flamed Beetle! I think I have seen it all now.
To: AfricanChristian
Looks like someone stepped on an Audi TT.

Of course, you know what is more difficult than getting a pregnant elephant in a Volkswagen.

The only car (that I know of) that has a flower vase built into the dash. My sons still laugh at this every time they see a Volkswagon because of this.
