hmm - maybe this would explain some other things on that junker we had.
I’ve got no problems with the Golf - fantastic piece of German engineering.
“If you show up in a date driving one of those things you can be 100% sure nothings happening later.”
So, are you saying that “The Wheels make the Man”? I guess some folks need all the help they can get.
Equip it with a full bore six or, better yet a hemi eight and maybe they can get a man to buy them.
The flower pot on the dash is not a big draw, at least for me
You forgot the biggest “con”...40, yes 40 horsepower. A decent lawnmower would out accelerate a bug.
How does it look after it’s bounced off the back of a semi??
IIRC they ALL had gears driving the camshaft. Maybe I’m wrong, since I haven’t built a VW engine in about 40 years.
Convertable Ghia, 1835CC with dual webers, dual exhaust, centerline wheels.
No thanks. No matter what they do with the roof, I bet it still feels like you are sitting in the backseat while trying to drive. I had better front visibility and corner awareness in my 1970 Delta 88.
I remember having a new one of these long ago for $3200.
I think the Porsche engines (even 4 cyl) had overhead cams and timing chains.
I hope they come up with a great series of commercials like these from a couple of years ago for the new Bug.

It’d be great if VW made a Bug commercial that was as good as the VW Polo at stopping Muzzy terrorist car bombings.

DC, that’s because you’re too darn tall.
For someone my height the VeeDubs are okay.
“If you show up in a date driving one of those things you can be 100% sure nothings happening later.”
You have no imagination. Youthful hormones will prevail.
The 6 cylinder Porsche engines all had chains.
Most of the 4 cylinder Porsche engines had pushrod-operated overhead valves, the camshaft was gear driven.
The 4 cylinder Carrera engines had 4 gear-driven overhead camshafts.
“Very nice, but just give us the old Beetle. There was nothing wrong with it at all.”
A matter of opinion, I guess, but did you ever have to use one in the winter in a Northern state?
The first time my neighbor drove her family’s brand new bug in the 70’s, she didn’t know how to shift the manual transmission so she just held the gas down in first gear the entire mile she drove to our house.
My father was a pilot and could identify aircraft by the sound of the engine. Hearing the buzz of the approaching bug, my father was baffled and went outside to scan the sky for anything that could make that noise and remain airborne. Imagine his surprise when our neighbor took the turn into our driveway on two wheels - mystery solved.
“Is it still basically a Golf with cosmetic differences?
Same platform (basic chassis). That means the tread and wheelbase are the same. They both share that with the Jetta.
