The national numbers were scary but Layton’s gains were all in Quebec. The NDP took 39 seats away from the Bloc.

It buries them. To gain status as an official party (and get the $2 per vote subsidy), they need a minimum of 12 seats. Since the BQ finances relied almost entirely on the subsidy, they’ll be broke.
