the government loans it out

To itself.

How else do you think it paid for the trillions in deficit spending over the past forty years - including the globalist boondoggles in the Middle East?

By your own admission, you've been here for 50+ years. You probably voted for politicians (Republicans and Democrats are the same thing, btw) who kept siphoning off your money for Big Government - you enabled them with your votes.

For such a small sample of McCain’s treachery that was nicely done.

McCain has been a parasite from the day he was born and probably will be until the day he kicks the bucket.

your working life(25 years)

In what world?

I'm 52 and have been working for 38 years and am not close to retiring.

THe only years that count are full time employment and there is no way you did that at 14 all year long.I also corrected the years but still the pay out for retires really should only be a little over $300 a month.Surely at 52 you don’t expect to get any at retirement?I’m 50 and know it goes broke before I am qualified for anything.

I worked full time all the way through high school and have ever since except for a short time in college.

I was simply pointing out that your numbers were ridiculous and needed correcting.

No SS is not part of my retirement planning.

We see every day that many people in their 60s and older live comfortably -- and still would if they received a little less in Social Security and paid a little more for Medicare. The trouble is that what's intuitively obvious becomes lost in the political debate; it's overwhelmed by selective and self-serving statistics that cast almost everyone over 65 as being on the edge of insolvency.

Samuelson is way off base. The financial comfort of the elderly is completely irrelevant.

Most of the elderly who receive benfits paid into the system their entire lives, and ended up with comfortable retirements because they worked their asses off and saved, ie., did without extravagance, wastefulness, instant gratification, and slovenliness in order that they may have a comfortable retirement.

To come along now and tell those elderly that they don't "need" social security while continuing to dump government handouts on the wasteful slobs who took no responsibility for their own retirements is a non-starter. Screw Samuelson and every other scumbag who tries to promote "means testing" (gee, that sounds vaguely Marxist, doesn't it?) for social security and medical benefits. I will raise hell and do everything I possibly can to defeat any representative of mine who even hints at supporting that despicable redistribution scheme.

Did no one clue you in to the truth about the lockbox?

Did no one clue you in to the truth about the lockbox?

There isn't one. It doesn't exist. It's imaginary.

A day late but....

Xer Ping

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effects Generation Reagan / Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

Aw, gee. I’ll advise my younger friends not to contribute to SS since they’ll be expected to pay their own way, regardless of how much $ they’ve put into the “system” during the last 50 years.

Additionally, some of the elderly have thickened toenails diseased w/fungi. A podiatrist is required. Otherwise, “bathroom surgery” might lead to infxn and amputation. What is more costly? Of course, a diabetic elderly person might not be working and/or paying taxes, so that person isn’t very valuable to society.

What’s wrong with the picture? I’ll tell you what’s wrong.

What’s wrong is that the citizenry of Arizona finds all the things you list either something positive to vote for McCain... or irrelevant, and they keep voting for him.

Remember, he’s only in power because Arizona voters *PUT* him there.

That says wonders about the values that Arizona and it’s voters have.

Dems are shoring up Social Security Disability at the expense of Social Security. And that’s NOT because they’re concerned about vets in wheel chairs or the blind. It’s because this is the new inner city welfare - without the pesky social workers or time limits. In short, they’ll have YOU working until you’re 98 so some inner city drug addict can start collecting at the age of 24 and collect until he dies of old age. Same for the people who have the HIV virus and are working as waiters and collecting full Social Security Disability benefits.
