When there actually was a powerful Soviet Union with agents and supporters throughout the world the CIA cultivated the anti-Communist left as an alternative to Soviet-dominated organizations.
When you had real enemies, there was no point in needlessly alienating potential supporters, even if they weren't 100% in agreement with us about ultimate ends or peripheral matters.
Nowadays, people feel free to indulge in rhetorical "total war" between ideologies, because the real demonic ideologies like Communism and Nazism have been defeated.
Compared to the old days, current ideological flame-wars are more for show than anything else (except where the old totalitarian passions are still alive, like the Middle East).
While comforting, this hardly answers, or even asks, the basic question:
"So what do we do about this man, his administration, and those who would vote for him again?"
And there's another question:
"What will those with whom we might replace him do to repair the massive damage done to our system of government and its constitution?"

Sloppiness like this disturbs me. Obama was not the editor of the Law Review. He was its president which is decidedly of less importance.

You are correct that the real work at the Harvard Law Review is done by the student editors on the Editorial Board. But there are about 90 student “editors” and there is only one President of Volume who becomes an “editor-in-chief”. So the most prestigious position is President of Volume.
The following excerpt is from an article about the current President of Volume, Mitchell Reich:
“As president, Reich will play the role of the editor-in-chief—overseeing the publication of both in-house and scholarly articles in the review—and of managing the staff and external relations. He says that, as president, he intends to continue the expansion of the web edition of the law review, transforming the web version into a valuable tool for scholars and an online mecca for scholarly discourse and debate. Reich also says he wants to be more conscientious about the length of legal articles—keeping articles at around 25,000 and below 30,000 words. But above all, Reich says he wanted to continue to produce a first-rate publication.
“My predecessor and the class before is a tough act to follow,” Reich says, going on to explain that he hoped to keep the tradition of excellence alive in the eight issues he would oversee as president.”

The CIA origins of Obama’s tenure may well explain the silence of our otherwise conservative pundits. We all knew Ann's years (5) in Pakistan's best hotel was an unusual history, but her role and her life were lived in a shadow world intentionally devoid of records. Grandma Toots as the conduit of funds to operations in the Middle and Far East suddenly fits. That a graduate of the same secret world happened to be President of Occidental while Barry, with no source of income, lousy grades, and some drug problems, attended, perhaps to get clean, and improve his Ebonics suddenly fits. Makes one wonder who controlled the educational testing corporation whose admins were charged with years in prison when one was suspected of viewing Obama's application forms, which probably would have shown his passport information?
Codevilla's explanation makes one wonder if the man Percy Sutton identified as the source of funds for Barry's Columbia and Harvard educations, Saudi Prince Wahlid bin-Talal, who offered Giuliani ten million dollars to apologize for 9/11, and who funded Harvard's Islamic Studies Department, named after him, and donated twenty million dollars near Barack's tenure, and who attended college and business school in the US, might also be a CIA asset? How about Talal's legal representative Don Warden/Khalid al-Mansour, who boasts of mentoring the young Barack since his Occidental years. (Warden was also a founder of the Black Panthers and a Boalt Hall UC law graduate, an eloquent black nationalist in the mold of Rev. Wright).
That the CIA supported SDS in its formative years is not well known. That both of Ann's husbands were employed by or directed by CIA fronts was new information, and probably trustworthy given Dr. Codevilla’s role in Naval Intelligence, headed research for the Senate Intelligence Committee, and, his role, though not nearly so active, in a similar capacity for Ronald Reagan as John Brennan's to Barack Obama - certainly Codevilla didn't have anyone murdered to hide exposure of Reagan's background as Brennan appears to have done to his employee, Lt. Quarles, when Quarles was claimed to have become a coopertive witness to the State Department break-in while Quarles was working for and under orders from Brennan.
The observation that Stanley Dunham was a CIA handler for Barack senior, as supported by the uniformed naval officers accompanying Stanley when he greeted the arriving Barack Senior in Hawaii is an observation Naval Intelligence Officer Codevilla would notice, and probably, verify through other sources. Lolo Soetoro’s active role as a Colonel during the CIA’s overthrow of Sukarno and replacement with Suharto makes Ann's role and the mystery which enveloped young Barack’s past all the easier to maintain, and Ann's reason for being involved much more clear.
We'll see if the clarity of Codevilla’s explanation of what appears a coup by factions with origins in the CIA helps defeat the whole crew? The tentacles are deep, as inferred from old lefty Leon Panetta being appointed CIA director. Do we have enough patriots in the intelligence community to further expose this elaborate attack from within? Are there any legislators or officers of the court, or officers of our military who don't know the truth about who this guy is? What most concerns many of us is the “Emperor's New Cloths” syndrome, where so many know, and those who don't, know the man is a fraud but haven't the means of correcting the march to tyranny the far left has engineered.

It will be interesting to see what General David Petraeus coming to CIA and Panetta moving to DOD means for both agencies.
Barry Obama is simply filling his obligation to Socialize America, i.e., make her a third world country. There are plenty of people around who worked with Obama on the Law Review. As President of the Law Review, he had absolutely nothing to do with editorial content, or editorial anything. His role was strictly administrative and he is reported to have done it very badly; he was dinged by his colleagues as ceremonial and decorative rather than functional. To top it off, unless there was a social function involved, he was very rarely even seen by the other people who ran the operation, which BTW, has a paid professional staff in addition to the student contributors.
This pattern continues in his style of working the White House. That is, no work. No details. He is an atrocious writer, being much more skilled at reading the work of others as a presentation.
