Those are the kind of questions & answers I would hope to see to form an intelligent opinion on the matter. What would make it the "best" proposal? Do you have a set of criteria in mind?

What would make it the "best" proposal? Do you have a set of criteria in mind? Presumably one that makes the most economic sense - I assume there are lots of criteria, like locations of suppliers & customers, cost of materials & labor in construction & maintenance, minimizing security & environmental risk ... as I said, what do I know? Alberta to the Gulf is a huge area.

The media has the Nebraska irrigation farmers convinced that the pipeline will leak and ruin the Ogallala Aquifer and put them all out of business. Doesn’t make sense, but I guess they will be happy paying $5 per gallon for diesel.

Oh for Chris sakes...put it in a lined ditch thru the Sand Hills or wherever it goes over the aquifer, then add a shut off valve every 1/2 or 1/4 mile. Done.
Jeezuz.

No, the gov is bending over for farmers. The farmers do not want the pipeline. They are making a killing from ethanol. Farmers carry a lot of clout in NE>

Probably a cat call for future eco-terrorists to blow it up and cause a spill.
You never know why they open their traps.

Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns echoed Heineman's request. "The proposed route is the wrong route. It's clear to me, after traveling throughout the state, that most Nebraskans agree a better route is needed," Johanns said in a release. What a pile of crap.
This wouldn't have anything to do with it:
There are currently 24 active ethanol production plants in Nebraska, with a combined production capacity of over 2 billion gallons of ethanol each yearand requiring 769 million bushels of grain in the process.
Nebraska ranks second nationally in ethanol productionand is the largest ethanol producer west of the Missouri River.
