Our teachers can carry with a chl here. When I used to go vote, (the only use I had/have for public “education” - a polling place) I didn’t leave it in the truck.

We tried to pass Vermont carry last year, got vehicle/property/business concealed w/o permit passed, but economic issues took up the rest of the available time. It got tabled because the ‘on school property’ issue caused a lot of debate they ran out of time for... Maybe next session...

Oh, and yes, I stay home on election day nowadays... vote a week early by mail.

Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) has introduced a bill (HR-2613) to repeal the federal Gun Free School Criminal Empowerment Zone Act.

The Gun Free School Zone Act, or GFSZA for short, was originally passed by Congress back in 1990, but in 1995 the Supreme Court voided the law, ruling it (quite correctly) to be an unconstitutional overreach of federal power. Congress quickly passed a revised version of the act which included the stipulation that the firearm had, “moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce.”

That is not quite correct. Congress passed the existing law while the Lopez case was going through the courts. See footnote 4 of Justice Rhenquist's opinion.

I think Justice O'Connor's observation that the result in the Raich case "turned Lopez into a drafting guide" for Congress has proven to be true, given the current health care case. That one is really all about the Congressional Findings stating that health care affects interstate commerce. Those Findings look pretty much exactly like the ones in 922 (q), the Gun Free School Zones Act, as passed during the court fights over the Lopez case.
