Perry has of the current field the best record of experience in governance and service to his country.

We should not use MSM standards to judge Rick Perry. Its exactly what the WAPO left wants to happen as it dismisses Perry outright. Yes Perry has conservative shortcomings in several areas of his record, on immigration policy for example, but he stands head and shoulders above all of them on governance experience and service to the nation and his sins are minor compared to Romney’s.

We shouldn’t elect a TV personna this time, besides, he often carries a Ruger .380 auto when he jogs, that alone earns my vote, LOL.

This says it all, Perry will beat the ass off Obama if he secures the nomination,he has nailed him before directly and has the balls to take Obama on face to face as a matter of official duty, unlike any of the other candidates:

C-130 Rick Perry: He Flew The World Before Politics

Abilene Online

By Sarah Kleiner Varble

Rank: Retired as a captain

Hometown: Haskell

Crew job: C-130 aircraft commander

Served in the Air Force: 1972 to 1977

Dyess AFB tour: March 4, 1974, to Feb. 28, 1977

His story:Way back before he was governor of Texas, Rick Perry had two choices as a young member of the Air Force.

He could either follow his dream and work toward becoming an instructor pilot in the sleek T-38, or he could fly the hulking C-130, planes that affectionately were referred to as “trash haulers” by Perry and his cohorts.

“There was no telling what you were going to haul around on any given day, from high value cargo like human beings to the colonel’s kitty litter,” Perry told the Reporter-News in a recent phone interview.

He wanted to fly T-38s, but not badly enough to move to Selma, Ala., where he would have been assigned. So, Perry chose to stay in Texas and fly the C-130.

In 1974, he moved to Dyess Air Force Base, about 55 miles from his hometown of Haskell, and began a career that took him all over the world and shaped his political future.

“It was one of the great adventures of my life,” Perry said. “I had a fairly pedestrian life until I was 23 years old.”

Perry could count on one hand the number of trips he had taken out of his home state by the time he graduated from Texas A&M University, but everything changed when he joined the Air Force.

Flying C-130s, Perry lived in Germany and Saudi Arabia. He flew in Central and South America, North Africa and all over Europe.

“I saw all of these different types of governments and I made the connections to how the people acted and looked, and it became abundantly clear to me that, at that particular point in time, that America was this very unique place and that our form of democracy was very rare,” Perry said. “ ... That was the greatest gift I received from my years of being in the military, and they really shaped my outlook on the rest of my life.”

Perry retired from the Air Force in 1977 — but not without one last adventure.

As his final days approached, Perry was assigned to a mission to “haul trash” to Bermuda with a relatively inexperienced crew.

“I’m sure the young guys stayed up a little longer than the older guy, which would be me at 26 years old,” Perry said, and they fell asleep on the way back to Abilene.

About the time the plane reached Atlanta, a fire light for the No. 3 engine flashed once. And then it flashed again.

Perry poked his co-pilot as the light reappeared and held steady on red.

Using the headset, he asked the loadmaster to take a look at the engine from the window and about that time, the engine exploded and blew a tail pipe off the plane.

“He started screaming that we were on fire and that we were all going to die,” Perry said. “The aircraft operated as advertised and flies amazingly well on three engines.”

Perry and his crew were stuck at Pope Air Force Base while awaiting a new engine. With three days left in his enlistment, Perry called the command post at Dyess and informed them that they would have to send a new pilot along with the engine if they didn’t hurry.

“I said, ‘In three days, I’m not Captain Perry anymore, I’m Mr. Perry, and I’m going home,” Perry said.

The engine arrived and the plane returned to Dyess in time for Perry to retire Feb. 28, as planned.

He went on to be elected to the state House of Representatives, agriculture commissioner, lieutenant governor and, finally, governor of Texas.

A joke?

Just how are we supposed to tell which proposals are “jokes”?

But let’s not let Cain sidetrack us. His comments on a fence, before the “electronic” fence, were out of touch with reality.

Guess, that is how you backtrack on a stupid statement. Now Cain is adopting Rick Perry’s plan on the border.

He has said almost as many things that he later backtracked on, as Romney has. The main difference I see is that Romney has been known for years for doing this, whereas Cain is compressing his into a much shorter time frame.

In July of this year is when he was interviewed by the WT and all the could say bad about Romney is that he couldn’t win because the South doesn’t like Mormonism.

In the same sentence he said that except for that flaw, Romney is a good choice.

Now I see where he says Romney isn’t exactly a staunch conservative.

Whooooooo-boy!

Soo.....only candidates that are weak on the border need apply. Or candidates that talk a good game but in the end do nothing, a la Bush.

THIS is a reason that I do not back Perry, I do not TRUST him. I believe that in his heart of hearts he is GWB part II.

He’s going to sound ok in the campaign but once he wins (IF he wins) it’s going to be “PRAISE HAY-ZOOS AND PASS THE TACO’S!”

So, FR isn’t the place for those ROC people looking to rid the U.S. of the likes of Obama?

Our goal is common, our candidate may not be. That’s fine.

“Not a joke. Just reality. Get aboard.”

Um...thanks but no thanks. I’ll go down with a 3rd party conservative before I get aboard a carbon copy of Obama. Sorry, we’re done with RINO losers like Dole & McCain.

Romney may have the cash, but no matter how much he tries to dress himself up into something that he’s not, the vast majority of Tea Partiers and social conservatives will NOT accept him.

Pro-TEA Party and a true Conservative here.

Go “3rd Party” and ensure the Dems retain the White House. It’s a loser’s game in our two-party system. None of this carp about starting a “real” third party......it ain’t happening.

Romney is a 70s-esque Rockefeller GOP type. No doubt. But, he’s also a sight better than Obama and the best alternative at this point to take the POTUS. Perry’s in a deep ditch and while I like Cain he don’t have “it.”

Think big picture. We (you included) are fighting a series of battles to get where we need to be. We won’t get there in this election cycle with any of the candidates. They aren’t Reagan and Palin is not real. There are certainly better conservatives out there but they are not running. Maybe later, hopefully, but not today. We have to bend the curve in the correct favor. Is Romney it? No. But, he is closer than Obama. That is a realistic assessment of the electoral landscape.

Is Mitt a little too plastic? Yes. Is he a little “politician?” Yes. Is he closer to me politically than Obama? Yes. Will he sign and enact more measures passed by a GOP Congress than Obama? ABSOLUTELY.

Romney is a Nixon/Ford Republican. Right now, where we are, I am more than fine with that. And I’ll go all in to get in a Ford Republican versus the Statist Dem’ we have now.

I’ll fight the real battle in the Congress and in later POTUS elections to come. We have the likes of Rubio, Haley, Martinez, Sandoval, and Ryan to come. The Dems have............????

The LibDems have exactly zero future prospects for POTUS,

As Mitt would say “nice try.” I’ll take you at face value that you’re a true conservative and tea party supporter. But that being the case, I would submit that your reasoning is flawed.

First point-there used to be a Whig Party that was one of the two dominant parties until 1860. If the GOP establishment wants to continue to be a Dem-lite party, then they will also go the way of the Whig Party. Obviously, it’s our preference to take control of the GOP from within, that’s why we are hard at work becoming precinct committeemen, recruiting more Tea Party candidates for Congress, Senate, and local elections, etc. But what we will NOT accept is someone who will be the face of the GOP that is hardly any different from Obama. If the GOP establishment wants to shove Romney down our throats, mark my words, there WILL be a substantial 3rd party challenge. Not because I say so, but because the mood of the grassroots is not to accept another McCain and Dole type re-tread who’s main appeal is that it’s “his turn” and his nomination is “inevitable.” We’re done with that.

Next point-we don’t have a Reagan and Palin isn’t real so we should nominate the most liberal candidate we have? I don’t see the logic there. We’re not likely to have another Reagan-he’s a once a century politician. So by that logic, we just keep putting up RINO re-treads until we find that elusive “perfect” candidate. This will get us no closer to where we need to be.

Next point-Romney’s a sight better than Obama? On what exactly? Since Romney has held multiple positions on just about every major issue, the best way to judge what type of POTUS he would be is look at his record in Mass. When I look at it, I see a guy who was pro-universal health care, pro-carbon caps (cap & trade), adamantly pro-abortion rights (indignantly invoking his mother in the 2002 debate when Tim Russert and his opponent dared question his pro-choice credentials), anti-second amendment, pro-gay marriage, and in favor of more intrusive government regulations. He may try to talk himself out of some of these positions, but he can’t run away from his record.

Next point-electability. What on earth makes you think this phony RINO is more electable than other candidates we have? They told us the same thing about McCain, Dole, & Ford. Most of the time when we nominate a “moderate” we lose. Why would we think Romney would be any different. In fact, I would argue that Romney may be the most unelectable candidate, because Obama and the MSM will be able to clobber him continually about his shifting positions-in fact, they’re already doing it. And don’t think they intend to leave his religion alone either. Once the general election starts, we’ll start getting a steady stream of “informational” stories about the history of Mormonism-like their polygamy, racism, etc. and the articles may just “mention” in passing that Romney himself has been quite active as an LDS bishop in the Boston area.

Whoever our nominee is, Obama and the MSM will do their best to rip them to shreds. But with a conservative like Cain or Perry, they will be attacked mostly over “evil” conservative positions taken or in Perry’s case policies implemented. They will also no doubt have personal Palin-like attacks. These are all standard, and can be responded to. Most likely, they will fire up the base even more because, as the Dems almost always do, they will overreach and engage in outright character assassination.

In Romney’s case, however, it will be very hard to defend their attacks, cause most of his flip-flops are right there on YouTube for everyone to see. All the Dems have to do is turn them into 30 and 60 second campaign spots and let Romney’s own words do all the work. Once the public is tuned in and educated to all this, the GOP base will be depressed because of his liberal positions, and the independents will be turned off cause the guy’s a phony. In this scenario, his only hope of being elected is that Obama is SO unpopular that they are willing to go for a plastic phony RINO over a Marxist.

Your last point-we have the likes of Rubio, Haley, Martinez, Sandoval, and Ryan to come. We have Cain, Perry and perhaps still Gingrich NOW. The idea that we always need to wait around for that “perfect” candidate down the road is folly. All the people you mentioned have flaws, and when/if they step up to run in the future, we’ll be having these same debates about one of those conservatives vs the GOP establishment pick of the day. And of course we’ll be told (like we were in 2008) to just accept their pick “this time” and we’ll get our guy sometime in the future.

McCain was bad enough in 2008, but Romney is worse. Bottom line-there really is nothing redeemable that I can see in supporting him. He’s liberal, unlikable, and probably unelectable. Why would we want to settle for a loser like that when we have a golden opportunity here to put up a true conservative against the most far-left socialist POTUS the U.S. has ever had and give Americans a clear choice? I think we can win that fight in a landslide-but we gotta start by putting up a candidate that’s not perfect, but is at least a conservative. I see no reason why Cain, Perry or possibly even Gingrich (though I have some reservations about him) can’t be that guy.

I do respect your opinion though. I just hope you will seriously consider what I’m saying and why I and so many other Tea Partiers see Romney as a non-starter.
