Do you have a direct quote of Cain making a “reassessing” statement, or is that a headline from the media?
including the proper TITLE.
“Herman Cain lawyer Lin Wood refuses to rule out legal action against accuser”
Good deal, maybe she can move in with Gloria NoMen, then sue her for sexual harrassment.
I’m going to stand up for his honor too, instead of running around claiming he’s done, he’s toast, he’s finished like some of the idiot women. who seem ready to believe anything anyone says as usual, on this website...
Yeah, I said it.
To force them to PROVE something.. anything.. AND......... get him a bodacious sound byte.. maybe some honor..
That's not how defamation for public figures works. Little nobodies can spew all kinds of false garbage at a public figure and if said public figure can't prove they're intentionally making it up, it's just free speech. It's called the New York Times malice test. For Cain to win, he would need a smoking gun that proved Ms. White was intentionally mirepresenting the truth to harm him, something like an email from Axelrod to her outlining how to tell her lie, for example. No such evidence is likely to surface, so Cain has to make his appeal to the conscience and the sense of fairness of the American people. You and me. We are the jury, and I haven't seen enough to convict.
Direct quote directly after the phone conference as transcribed by NRO Corner. They are generally decent at giving straight info.
Obviously, youre all aware of this recent firestorm that hit the news yesterday, Cain began, his voice somber. First thing I want to do is say to you what I have said publicly: I deny those charges, unequivocally. Secondly, I have known this lady for a number of years. And thirdly, I have been attempting to help her financially because she was out of work and destitute, desperate. So, thinking that she was a friend and I have helped many friends I now know that she wasnt the friend that I thought she was. But it was a just a friendship relationship.
That being said, obviously, this is cause for reassessment, he continued. As you know, during the summer we had to make some reassessments based upon our financial situation. We were able to hang in there; we reassessed the situation and kept on going. We also did a reassessment after the Iowa straw poll and we made another reassessment after the Florida straw poll. When the previous two accusations, false accusations, came about, we made another assessment. The way we handled those was, we continued on with our schedule. We made an assessment about what was going to happen to our support. But our supporters, and even some folks that we didnt have as supporters, they stood with us, and they showed it not only in terms of their verbal support, they showed it in terms of their dollars.
It goes on. You can find the rest at NRO Corner.
Once again you have no idea what you are talking about. Cains supporters consider Newt their back up by 37% which make one wonder how Conservative Cain supporters are in the first place.
As it happens, theres some recent polling data that may partly answer this question. A series of recent Public Policy Polling (PPP) surveys asked Cain voters who would be their second choice for the nomination, among other things. The results were unsurprising: 37 percent of Cain voters picked Newt Gingrich as their back-up. Fourteen percent picked Michele Bachmann, 13 percent picked Mitt Romney, and 12 percent went for Rick Perry. The bottom line, according to PPP, is that Cain voters love Mr. Gingrich, and dont love Mr. Romney.

Why Santorum and Bachmann are not at the top of this list is very telling of people like yours mindset on Conservative ideals.

SOooo... hes screwed then... you would think TORT reform would be exactly the first thing a Republican House would do.. or try to do... or attempt to do...
Maybe CAin could sue them from Texas.. Texas passed some Tort Reform..
I don’t remember Cain saying he is without blemish. Sounds like a liberals opinion that is being repeated. No politions would make such a statement.
Doesn't look like that to me, his lawyer is a warning to the liars and slanders to be careful or you may find yourself in a discovery session...That usually shuts them up unless they are being pushed forward and have no idea what is waiting for them....
Tort reform would not address the problem with public figure defamation. It has more to do with capping limits for slip and fall or medical malpractice class of suits. Defamation is based on a long history of precedent law that could not realistically be overturned legislatively.
However, you raise an interesting point. We now understand that blatantly false defamation is going to be a preferred weapon in the left’s effort to consolidate their control over the electoral process. I don’t have any brilliant ideas on how to blunt that weapon, but I agree it des deserve our attention, because it is now being systematically used to deprive us of a fundamental constitutional right, the power to choose our elected leadership. The means is technically legal, but the effect is to restrict our choices. The pain we are feeling over the GOP field is the pain of the chains of psychological slavery, and we have many even here on FR who go about in those chains, haunting us, urging us to conform and wear our own chains. We have to refuse that offer, and insist on keeping our choices and therefore our freedom. Resisting the defamation, whether by demanding proof or by any other means, must be a part of our strategy, or we are certain to lose to our inferiors, as the left certainly is.
[ I dont have any brilliant ideas on how to blunt that weapon,]
Loser pays............... <<-{Tort change]..
That would help some. It would tend to weed out the unmotivated and the underfinanced (neither of which applies to the left). But the good guy could still end up being the loser, because the real problem in public figure defamation is the lopsided burden of proof, and no form of Tort Reform I know of reaches that.
>>>I dont remember Cain saying he is without blemish. Sounds like a liberals opinion that is being repeated. No politions would make such a statement.<<<
I am a Cain supporter. He’s been straightforward that nothing happened with his sexual harassment accusers, and nothing is what it is. I believe him, too. However, I’ve also been fooled, too, which is what happens when you’re 55 years old and you’ve been around the barn a few times.I guess I’ll have to see how this falls out.
I also am a Cain supporter and so far have heard nothing that would make change my mind...gossip is not a reason to stop supporting him...Romney/newt are definately NO votes from me...Cain is it....
1. When you play the race card it means that you have no defense and you lose all credibility. 2. Don’t lie. Only works for democrats. 3. The NRAss has released his accusers from confidentiality. Obtain the documentation from the 2 complaints where money was paid and release it. 4. Don’t let your lawyer release a statement basically admitting to an affair then deny it.
5. If you charge another candidate with something underhanded, have proof.
6. Don’t use Clinton’s tactics of villifying and degrading your accusers, just show the evidence.
