(Thanks to s-l-o-w satellite connection...)

I don't think just your connection is to blame. I've had more double posts lately, too. I think FR has slowed seriously in the past few weeks. Since the last fundraiser. ;-)

If the issue was important to you, you're going to likely understand that there were two decisions which radically tilted the philosophical grounding of our public education system to accidentalist, atheistic relativism -- Engel v. Vitale which banned school prayer in 1962 on a 6-1 vote and Abington Township V. Schempp which banned Bible readings in 1963 on an 8-1 vote.

So "Team Perry" was likely not doing after-the-fact CYA in explaining the reference to 8 judges.

Since he did mention the 1962 case during the interview, then I stand corrected on the eight justices comment. He still needs to know the names of the SCOTUS justices, along with the factions and viewpoints they represent - because nowadays they are the all-powerful gatekeepers of what happens in DC.

BTW, the comment about doing away with the federal government was vapid. We have a certain amount of federal government authorized in the Constitution. The goal should not be to abolish the fedgov, but get it back within the iron fence of the 9th and 10th Amendments as envisioned by Jefferson.

The main advantage to me of Perry over Newt, I thought, is that I don't see Newt properly understanding that there need to be limits on fedgov powers as mandated in the Constitution whereas Perry does raise the 10th as a limit on federal powers. However, when Perry says something about doing away with the fedgov, I wonder how much he understands the 10th and the enumerated powers in the Constitution as well.

Oops, Perry just undid this defense on Fox News Sunday - he said he doesn't know how eight came out of his mouth. He also says he doesn't have the names of the Supreme Court justices memorized - my point exactly, that is a very important thing to be aware of, not just the names but how they vote, as states are subject to SCOTUS factional rulings as well.

So put me back to neutral on the 8 justices issue - because Perry himself just put me there.

As usual the ignorant media is to lazy to actually Bing the issue.

It is shameful how stupid the msm really has become.

No one should pay any attention to them without doing a Bing search on the issue.

I regret posting my reply in the manner I did. I didn’t mean to sound like I thought he was some kind of nut job.

I like him very much and believe, of the whole field, he best represents pure Conservative values and has the record of governance to prove it.

Of all the post’s I’ve made on FR, it’s one that I wish I had taken more time to think through and how it would appear.

I understand very well, i think i could take out a patent on speaking without thinking through what i should be saying. that is one of the things that make us different from robots.

And it takes a hell of a lot better man or woman to admit they screwed up than it takes to be a professional speaker who never screws up.
