I was wrong, it’s still sitting up. The ports on the front threw me off. Another crazy Russian design.

I already did! They aren’t too happy with me right now. Hot cocoa is brewing.

...How do you determine the strength of a pressure hull after its been heated like that?...

Or when you cut a huge hole in it.

Supposedly they cut the hole to do repairs. What kind of repair needs that big a hole? Also, the hull doesn't look very thick.

“but you’ll not be able to locate and kill off our subs “

We always like you to think that. There isn’t a sub in the world that cannot be tracked in real-time.

What kind of repair needs that big a hole?

A changeout of major equipment like turbines, air conditioning units, oxygen generator, diesel generator, etc. In many cases it makes more sense to cut a big hole and swap out the machinery intact rather that try and break down a complicated machine into pieces small enough to fit down the three foot wide hatch.

The evolving newest standard is for “low smoke, zero hal(ogen)” cable insulation. Halogenated cable jackets like PVC and PVDF emit copious amounts of acidic vapors which corrode the electronics. OTOH, you don’t want CO emissions from materials like PE (which supports a flame) killing the crew.

It’s highly doubtful that the Russians spec’d out a LoSmoke/0Hal standard. Probably using plain old Polyethylene that’ll burn like a candle.

that ‘cut’ looks pretty jagged to me, having seen real ‘cuts’ in real subs. kinda looks like the hull is made of fiberglass rather than steel, or titanium.

WELL, you can't take a fully inflated rubber raft out through a hatch!

Funny, and true. Knew an old Tanker jock. Said the Swedes and the Finns always out drank them, and beat them in tank competitions.

Article HERE claims that it was the rubberized exterior coating on fire - and that the fire originated in wooden scaffold nearby.

Initial reports were that scaffolding outside the sub had burned.
Can’t believe the Russian military, Government lies just like ours does.
For NO DAMNED reason.

Yes, I do not think they use our standards, and the smoke from that crap will kill as dead as a hammer to the head. And it will smolder for hours.

Or the Sub-Leaf. It needs a real long extension cord to get it back up from the bottom of the Hudson River after it submerges.....once.
