Pay more, for lower quality. It’s the smart thing to do!

Uh, huh. Are you also upset with the green revolution, brought on by genetic modification and big ag, even though it saved somewhere in the neighborhood of a billion people from starvation? You never clarified your position on that one.

Older varieties of plants (often lower yielding) are likely generally stronger—more resistant to disease, etc.

So plants are less resistant to disease after they've been genetically modified to become more resistant to disease? That's not how it works. LOL.

The bio-genetic wizards can’t see every possibility in advance, and only one mishap could cause a worldwide famine.

Yes, those bio-engineers are so myopic that their efforts have only resulted in more than a billion people being spared from the ravages of starvation. Bastards! I think those who live in the rational world will take their chances with that potential mishap given the results of their work so far.

I have every right in the world to think and say that Monsanto sucks if that is what I believe.

People believe in all sorts of idiocy. And you are correct, it is their right.

Buying organic is pretty easy these days, and that's what I do.

Every one of those organic foods you buy has been genetically modified in some way or another over time. But you're still here after ingesting all that poison. Go Figure. The only downside is spending more money on food than you have to for absolutely no benefit. P.T. Barnum's well known adage is as true today as it was back then.

You wrote: “They are one of the best managed companies in the world and they consistently grow their profits every year. They are the envy of the industry. “

Yes, I’m sure this is true. And they relentlessly go after small farmers who plant their own seeds, taking them to court, driving them out of business. This is just as devastating as the liberal gubmint diverting water from farmlands so some obscure fish could survive.

I would always be on the side of the hardworking INDIVIDUAL who wants to live his life in his own way and thought that Free Republic was pretty much about that. When did this site become a mouthpiece for mega-corporations?

As for “scrawny” vegetables, organic stuff in my markets is always better looking and has more flavor than the other kind. And often is priced competitively.

Define "their own".

My experience is the opposite. Scrawny organic at twice the price.
