I believe Texas law says something to the effect, you are allowed to use deadly force if somone is stealing your property or someone elses. In that case, they had broken into his neighbor’s home and were making off with some loot. That was the reason he was not charged. Would I have done it, no but that would have been my decision.

On the use of lethal force, I believe if one feels threatened, they would be stupid to bring out anything less than a firearm. First off, if they are threatened, it is not simply a matter of someone coming to your door, it has to do with their intent to harm you. Ever been in a disabled car and have some nut come up and begin banging on the window and be within a second of breaking the glass to get at you and your family? I have...only thing that got him moving on was my revolver. I sure as hell was not going to open the window and spray mace at him from inside the car. There was no way I could take this guy physically as he was half my age and twice my weight. Message was simple deterrent, break the glass and you will be dead, period.

Most all gun fights take place in mere seconds...having the time to decide what to do puts you at a disadvantage. If you are threatened, it is far better to be in the power position than to be reacting to looking down the barrel of a gun or the blade of a knife.

Personally, it think the news reporting is, in fact, using "white Hispanic" to push the racism button of black readers. (Because they (blacks) will probably read it as WHITE hispanic.)

However, it should be noted that there are plenty of very dark skinned, African-descended, people who speak Spanish living in Central and South America. (More if you throw in the Portuguese-speaking "blacks" of Brazil.) Collectively, these would be termed "black Hispanics" to distinguish them from the Hispanics who are either Spanish-speaking Native Americans, European-descended, or a product of intermarriage (as I suspect a mestizo Hispanic named Zimmerman appears to be).

My CCW instructor told us we need to carry and use pepper spray if we are attacked by unarmed perps IF we are male. I'm in total agreement. That's why I carry. I just would not go out of my way to shoot someone.

I just saw a headline that said the police could not arrest Zimmerman because "Florida statute forbids arresting someone acting in self-defense". It is obvious that the left is doing a "fast and furious" with this case and are using it as an excuse to make it illegal to defend oneself. And yet freepers want to defend Zimmerman...

Never carry a bunch of non-lethal (and pepper spray can kill people with lung problems, btw) stuff when you carry a gun, the defense attorneys will hammer you to death as to why you chose the gun over the non-lethal weapons.

One, nobody is going to make you argue that in court.

Two, from your legal standpoint it IS superior because no attorney coming after you can make an issue of why you chose your gun over pepper spray. Why didn’t you try the non-lethal stuff first? Why didn’t you try multiple times? You really just wanted to murder a person with your gun.

You can listen and take the advice given in the CCW classes or you can do what you think is right. You want to make yourself a bigger legal target that they may convince a jury you had other lesser force options you deliberately overlooked and went right for your wicked nasty lethal gun, you feel free.

It depends on the “disparity of force” that exists. This is why the LEO generally says women are excused but mena generally are not. However if you are an older male, or male with disabilities, or smaller, (or if it’s multiple attackers vs you), or even if it is an ambush/surprise attack on you, you generally have a disparity of force argument on your side as reason to use your weapon.
