Personal responsibility does not cease to exist on harder things.. if you don’t trust your seller, then don’t buy from them. Simple.

Just the sort of nonsense that turns many off to conservatism.

Do you also object to the legal requirement that publicly traded firms must spend big bucks to hire independent accounting firms to render opinions on their financial statements, and that those audited statements be made available to potential buyers of stock and others?

There are numerous cases where those offering a product in the marketplace should be required to provide detailed information about their products. It is totally impossible for potential buyers to personally investigate and acquire the needed information about products offered for sale. To pretend otherwise is ridiculous.

That used to be known as “adulterated” milk, and it was illegal as all get out.

Aspartame causes a lot of problems for a lot of people, and having it sneaked into any food without labeling is a crime.

“Just the sort of nonsense that turns many off to conservatism.”

How much concerned about conservatism, aren’t we, Comrade?

Look, if you are too lazy to investigate what you eat (i.e. not taking responsibility of your own diet) and force private businesses to brand their product through the government’s gun, then that is not conservatism.

Businesses should do what free market tells them to. So, if people are that much concerned about additives, then they will talk with their wallet. And businesses listen to their bottomline. If you do not like additives, then don’t buy... they will listen. Businesses should only be concerned about maximizing their profits for their stakeholders/investors — that is the ethical thing to do. They do not have to be forced through gunpoint to embrace emotional “standards”. Consumers will decide.
