First off, Mark Kirk (IL) is not a Republican. Oh, he ran as a Republican, and has an R after his name, but his voting record is to the left of many Democrats. Trust me on this: If he gets a Republican challenger when he comes up for re-election he will switch parties and run as a Dim. That’s if he doesn’t change parties before then (ala Arlen Spector).
There really is no difference at all between Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin. They are just twin sons of different mothers.

The Republicans are actively trying to weed out conservatives. Obviously, we as conservatives have no voice anymore and this vote just proves it.
